When he was 14 he went to
Harrow School, a famous English public school. In 1883 he joined the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. Two years later, his father died. In 1895 and 1896 Churchill travelled to America, Cuba and India with the British. Army and wrote about the army for British newspapers. In 1898 he went to South Africa during the Second Boer War. When he was there he became a Prisoner of War but later he escaped from prison. In 1900 he became a member of parliament. In 1908 he got married to Clementine Hozier. Six years later he fought in the First World War. In 1940 he became the British Prime Minister. He remained Prime Minister until the end of the Second World War in 1945. In 1953 he received the Nobel Prize for Literature for his History books. He died when he was 91 in 1965.
