I. PROJECT TITLE: The Art of Reading: Integrating Free Remedial Reading

Sessions to the Individuals of Calamba City

II. RATIONALE:

Knowledge is power; it enables people to thrive in this world. It can be obtained

in a variety of ways, including through reading. "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader,"

Margaret Fuller once stated, implying that by reading, an individual will gather

enough knowledge to assist him or her to become a better person and, eventually, a

leader material. Reading can assist a person in learning about new places, people, and

events. It offers fresh and unique thoughts that provide the reader a new perspective

on a variety of topics. Being able to read makes it easier for people to find work and

get out of poverty. With this in mind, it is important that people at young age are

encouraged to develop their reading skills because they are the future of the society.

The organization aims to start a project entitled “The Art of Reading: Integrating

Free Remedial Reading Sessions to the Individuals of Calamba City,” that will tutor

and teach individuals to read. There are many individuals in Calamba's squatter areas

who are not properly guided to learn to read. The organization's main goal with this

proposed project is to assist them in learning to read, particularly those who are not

born into a wealthy family and are unable to attend school. With the support of the

organization’s members and sponsorship, this project aims to provide twice-weekly

and two-month-long tutoring sessions, starting April 30, 2022, until June 26, 2022, in

specific areas of Calamba, such as Brgy. Lingga, Brgy. Palingon, Brgy. Sampiruhan,

Brgy. Bantayan and Brgy. Tibag. The members of the organization are positive that

this project will help both the individuals and the society.

III. OBJECTIVES

The project has the following objectives:

1. Help individuals to learn and improve their reading skills using different kind of

texts.

2. Promote activities to open more opportunities to individuals, especially those who

cannot achieve their basic human rights, such as reading and studying.

3. Encourage pupils to read freely in order to deepen their knowledge and be good

readers.

4. To inspire the pupils to strive for their basic civil rights and do things similarly in

the future.

IV. SCOPE:

The “The Art of Reading: Integrating Free Remedial Reading Sessions to the

Individuals of Calamba City” applies to first 100 individuals (20 individuals per

barangay) who want to learn and develop their reading skills but are incapable of

doing so because of financial instability. The project does not limit teaching only to

kids, but also to adults who do not have the privilege to learn the skill in their past

years. The project will occur in specific areas in Calamba, such as Brgy. Lingga,

Brgy. Palingon, Brgy. Sampiruhan, Brgy. Bantayan and Brgy. Tibag, prioritizing

individuals in squatter areas. This project also aims to give every participant free

book, helping them practice and develop their reading skills.
