Warehouse management is the process of optimizing and controlling the operations and storage
of products in a warehouse from the time inventory enters the facility until it is sold, becomes obsolete,
consumed, or moved to another location. Every warehouse must specify where and how products will
be moved. This is known as warehouse management process flow, and it must be in place before the
order fulfillment process can begin. In a warehouse, there is a system flow chart where it illustrates the
movement of warehouse goods in a visual format. Warehouse flow charts can be divided into several
categories. At least three stages are required: receiving, storage, and shipping. There are two types of
flowcharts first is the medium flow chart, which is much more common and includes more steps This
type of flow chart is useful for medium to large businesses or those with many products. It also has
areas for preparatory tasks which includes multiple storage sections, cold storage versus room
temperature storage, a picking and packing area, and shipping staging or preparation. consolidation. The
second one Is the complex warehouse system flow charts which may consist of 10 stages or more,
depending on the need of the products. This is common for temperature-controlled products, high-
value inventory businesses, or products with numerous parts. Another process flow in a warehouse is
the outbound process flow. We need to understand our warehouse outbound process flow for us to
have organizational success. It is a critical component of satisfying both distribution customers and
service providers. The outbound process flow should include steps at a minimum such as designating a
packing area and a shipping staging area, monitoring shipping and delivery notifications, and updating
your records. It is beneficial to keep your warehouse outbound process organized in a flow chart to
maximize effectiveness. If there’s an outbound, there is also an inbound. In inbound, we need to make
sure that it is strong enough to achieve our goal of having success for your company’s productivity.
Some steps should be followed in the inbound process flow which includes scheduling all deliveries,
designating an unloading area, including inventory management, and lastly is to update your reports. In
this process, making a list of everything is a good start, but your final warehouse inbound process flow
chart should be visually appealing.
