Q. Write about different types of leadership.

Leadership is an art of influencing people toward achievement of common goal.

It is an important aspect of managing people and involves three components,


influence, group and goal.

Leadership skills contribute to the achievement of group goal and also help the
people to grow professionally.

According to Kurd Lewin and his followers Liftit and White, Teacher's leadership
style and behaviour effect the intellect and emotional development of the
children.
Types of Leadership:
Leadership styles depends on the personality of leader, group situation and
problem in hand.

Depending on the situation leader exhibits different types of leadership styles:

1. Directive leadership

2. Supportive leadership

3. Permissive Leadership
1. Directive leadership

Directive leadership is one of the most common styles of leadership thatis


used today.

In this the leader initiates the projects.

H e directs, gives responsibility and specific expectations to his subordinates.

He provides guidance, schedule the work and standards for quality of


performance.

The leader uses force, authority, domination and command on his followers
Advantage:
1. Leader provides, moral, material, standard and guidance.
2. This leadership facilitates team work.
3. All members work together for success of organization.
4. The goals are set by the leader in advance which increases positive attitude
of team.
5. This leadership leads to achievement and satisfaction of the team.
6. Members develop loyalty toward leader and work place.

Disadvantage:
1.
Ifthe leader is unable to communicate the goal, this leads to confusion and
internal conflict in team.
2. Leader may develop liking to some and dislike to other resulting in rivalry.
3. This leadership style doesn't allow growth and development of personality.
2. Supportiveleadership

1. The leader provides support, help, sympathy and encouragement to his


team

2. The leader has a friendly relationship with is team and is concern for their
need and wellbeing.

3. In this the employee gets an environment to grow and accomplish the needs
in the interest of the organization.
Advantage:
1. Itprovides a feeling of participation and task involvement in the organization.
2. Leader recognize the passive members in group and try to understand ther
problem and help them to grow.
3 Leader reduce stress and frustration in work place.
4. It is a very effective tool in educational system and helps in solving the
problems of teachers and students.

Disadvantage:
1. Supportive leadership is not applicable to every organization, specially for
high-pressure or strictly results-driven companies.
2. Resource intensive as it requires a lot of time and energy.
3. As the result is not fixed atthe beginning, doesn't lead to faster and ideal
result.
3. Permissive Leadership

1. It is called Laissez-Faire or free- pain leadership.

2. The leader avoid his authority and position and relinquishes it to


subordinates.

3. Leader avoid responsibility and power.

4. In this leadership style the subordinates and team members have the real
lead.

5. The leader trust his team and their capability.


Advantage:
1. This leadership benefits self motivated team looking for new responsibility
and challenge.
2. Empowers individuals to practice their leadership skills
3. Can lead to increased creativity and innovation
4. Less fear of failure
5. Encourages trust between team members and leader
6. Instill a sense of independence

Disadvantage:
1. Can result in low productivity
2. This can create conflict amongst team members.
3. Lead to confusion about roles and responsibilities
4. Won't be effective with an unskilled or unmotivated team
