US Marine Corps began replacing sniper

rifles
25 September 2018

The US Marine Corps began the process of replacing the sniper rifles in service. Instead of
the M40, various modifications of the Vietnam War, the corps received new Mk13 Mod 7
sniper rifles of the 7,62 × 67 mm caliber, according to Military Parity, citing
marinecorpstimes.com.

The decision to replace sniper rifles was made by the command of the ILC in April of this
year, as previously reported "Military Review" . According to available information, rifles will
be delivered to infantry and reconnaissance battalions, as well as sniper training schools
of the Marine Corps.

The rifle is made for the cartridge of the .300 Winchester Magnum caliber and in its fighting
qualities considerably exceeds the М40А6, which was in service with the USMC before.
The .300 Win Mag cartridge has a much greater slaughter than the standard NATO
cartridge caliber 7,62 mm, and also increases the slaughter distance by 300 meters. The
Mk 13 Mod 7 rifles have a longitudinally sliding shutter and a very powerful daytime optical
sight and are designed for high-precision shooting at distances over 1 km, while the M40 is
designed to work on targets at a distance of 1 km.

The M40 rifle, in service with the 1966 of the year, will continue to be used for training
purposes to train new recruits.
