ANSWERS TO ONLINE QUESTIONAIRE FROM SHELL MALAYSIA

1. Briefly describe your ideal job?


Ans. I undertake maintenance, calibration and installation of all process instruments (eg. transmitters, switches, control valves ,safety valves ,indicating instruments, etc) and bulk discharge flow meters and filters of loading gantries. Troubleshooting of control loop malfunctions and corrects all anomalies through blueprint reading and P&ID and by the use of handheld communicators like HART and other loop calibrators. I also undertake maintenance and installation of electrical equipments like electric motors,variable speed drives(vsds) , transformers, overhead cranes, building starters for motors, programmable controllers, PID tuning, etc

2. Why did you choose this career


Ans. I chose this career because of its challenging nature. The nature of the career gives you the opportunity to reason faster and become innovative since every now and then there are new equipments and instrument with its associated problems. New technological ideas evolve in the process of solving problems. The hazards associated with the carrier enhances consciousness in safety practices.

3. What goals do you have in your career


Ans. To obtain a position as an Instrumentation/Electrical Engineer and eventually a manager of same discipline where my skills and abilities will be utilized to effectively and efficiently enhance the productivity of the organization I find myself. 4.

How do you plan to achieve these goals.

Ans. By working diligently and with dedication, working smartly and studying constantly to keep updating myself of new technologies and keeping good interpersonal relations with superiors , subordinates and colleagues at work. Constantly embracing team work and sharing ideas, but firm in decision making. Not compromising with the occupational health and safety standards at any point in time.

5. Can you work well under deadlines or pressure?


Ans. Yes,I can work well under pressure and can sacrifice to go that extra mile if deadline is given for results.

6. Tell us a time where you failed to meet deadline. What were the repurcusions?
Ans. This was when the nitrogen PSA plant went down or tripped on buffer pressure low. Two of the absorber valves were found not operating well. The maximum the plant can run is 4hours without the

N2 plant considering the engagement of the reserved nitrogen in storage. The spare valves had already been exhausted and so there was the need for instant maintenance and repair of the valves which had its stems worn out, locking keys broken. In this instance, the welders came in, the machinist came in and by the time I finished working on the valves, the 4 hour deadline has elapsed so the plant had to be brought down, causing downtime loss but was for a brief moment.

Ans. Because I read the profile of the company and realized the aim is clearly spelt on innovation and tackling the challenges of the new energy future. I have this interest, tackling challenges and bringing innovative ideas for results and incorporating safety measures to lift the safety standard of the organization.

Ans. Because I believe I have what it takes to motivate colleagues and subordinates to work and assist other co-workers in decision making and team working. Im ever ready to work at all times which most workers will not, once their number of working hours is exhausted. I pay keen attention to emergencies and sacrifice time to solve and achieve results. I ensure that all workers work under safe working conditions by enforcing the usage of PPES and environment free from accidents though hazards may exist.

Ans. Senior instrumentation technician engineer-Responsible for the maintenance, calibration and installation of process instruments, flow meters and loading gantry meters and filters installation and maintenance and process control loop malfunction troubleshooting. Maintenance of gas compressors, water treatment plants, steam boilers, generators and furnaces, carbon analyzers and programmable logic controllers, PID tuning and load cells installation.

11. How soon can you travel down to any location posted to you?
Ans. One month after the offer, but can be as soon as possible if the need be.

Ans. Instrumentation Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Project Supervisor/Engineer

My future plan is to plant measures to enable me see the organization in which I play a role see itself on the top chart of ISO,NOSA and other international safety rating bodies. Again when given the opportunity to explore further, will make sure that the image of the company is lifted in terms of eliminating waste, i.e. making best use of resources, safety standards of workers improved and downtimes are avoided by having periodic scheduled/planned maintenance. 15. What is your current salary? Ans. My current salary is equivalent to 1,000 US dollars (basic) and 1,300-1,600 US dollars with allowances inclusive. 16. What is your expected salary? Ans. Between 4,000 and 6,000 US dollars
