data applying these are always not related to the IT.

How can the information resources be use strategically?

There are two main models are applying in organizations in information system.

Porte’s Theory
According to the Porter there are five competitive in any organization or industry. An
organization or industry strength and weakness are always depending on their
attractiveness.
Under the Porter’s theory he shows the prospective market is always has been broadly
adopted the unplanning of investigation in information technology. This is relationship
between suppliers, customers and other potential threats.

The five competitive forces model

The five competitive models are providing a way to think how the information resources is
can create competitive advantage.

Unit 07 Strategic Information System 22

Wiseman’s Strategic Planning Model
Wiseman’s vision for the program is to work with GTE and other companies at the same
time he has introduced CIS strategies. In his book Porter's Thinking Explores Many
Strategies in Practical Discussion, discussing examples of these strategies, and
commenting on how companies have begun to use information systems to gain significant
advantages. And the importance of these computer products and services, and the
technical innovation or the format of the reports they produce, is not seen in the role
played by this information system in designing and executing it solely for competitive
advantage. While not always a competitive advantage, it can be an important strategic
tool for companies Others have shown the Wiseman’s Theory. It is important to develop
a systematic approach for identifying competing information systems (SIS) strategic
opportunities, and involvement in both business management and a framework for
identifying those SIS scenarios.
The Wiseman’s takes the Porter’s three generic categories. Low cost producer,
Differentiation, Focus
These three categories Wisemen’s is extended the five categories. Differentiation, Cost,
Innovations, Growth, Alliance
Wiseman is advice the brainstorming and systematic research for SIS liabilities. He
explained his SIS planning process in five phases.

Introduce the Information Services management to SIS concepts

 Give an overview of the process describe in cases. Increase the proceed with an
idea-generation meeting and information services.
Conduct an SIS idea-generation meeting with Information Services middle
management
 Test the SIS ideas methodology and identify the important SIS areas for
important areas for executive examination.
Conduct an SIS idea-generation meeting with senior Information Services
management.
 Recognized the SIS ideas and figure out them together with the ideas from
previous meeting.

Unit 07 Strategic Information System 23

Introduce the top business executives to the SIS concept.

 Discuss some of the SIS ideas that were examined for the business. increase the
proceed with the SIS ideas generations meetings with business planers.

Conduct an SIS idea-generation meeting with the corporate planners.

 Identify the SIS ideas and figure out them together with an idea that have come
up with from the previous meeting.
Wisemen is point out the fully idea is designed to introduce the strategic mindset on
information system, activate the systematic search for SIS opportunities. Select the set of
projects are that are expected to be protected competitive advantage for the firm. In this
idea generation meeting of phases 2, 3, and 5 for the process, there are always seven
definite steps.

What are the ways to Achieve Competitive Advantage?

Through the competitive strategy of organization find a competitive advantage in an
industry, sometime competitive take an advantage such as cost, quality or speed for their
industry. Competitive advantage is the main thing in the firm's success or getting failure,
