ILOILO
Weaving
Iloilo was known as the “Textile Center” of the Philippines where fabrics were
woven from cotton, abaca, pineapple, as well as silk bartered with the Chinese merchants.
The rapid growth of the weaving industry was observed in the middle of19 th century were
woven textiles were exported to Manila and even to foreign countries.
Market fairs were held in different towns where hand woven clothes were sold in
abundance. Before this development though, the weaving industry in Iloilo was already well
established even before the Spaniards arrived.
Woven Textiles:
1.Hablon – from a Hiligaynon word habol which
means “to weave”;
o the hand-woven textiles by local weavers
notably from Miag-ao;
o usually multi-colored with stripes in
varying width and in geometric design;
o the textile is woven as a patadyong using a
wooden handloom. A hablon is colorful and has linear
and geometric pattern.

o Abaca is a banana specie native to the Philippines
used in the production of textile by the early
Filipinos even before the coming of the Spaniards;
o is far more stronger and durable than cotton and
piña fiber, hence, it was the main component of ropes
used by ships in the early times;
o the outermost layer of the abaca leaf stalk produces
rough threads like most of our ancestor’s clothing;
o the innermost layer has finer threads called tinampipi;
o Dr. Jose Rizal had made mention of sinamay in his
Noli Me Tangere signifying that it was the popular An upper garment made from
wear during that era; sinamay.

o Abaca cloth had also reached other countries proof of-the-philippines-part-iv-museum-of-the-filipino-

o it is now woven into several colors and design and is one of the most popular
foundations for hat-making;
o Millinery is often used in the fashion industry and is usually a part of formal attire
during especial functions in western countries;
o abaca fiber is also a good material for ribbons and baskets but it has many uses
also in the paper industry.
Architecture
Miagao church is one of the
Spanish colonial mission churches
which was built by the missionary priest
with the help of local master builders.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION
COORDINATION - The ability to use the different parts of the body together with the senses.
- Hand-eye coordination, or eye-hand coordination, is the ability to do activities that require
the simultaneous use of our hands and eyes, like an activity that uses the information our eyes
perceive (visual spatial perception) to guide our hands to carry out a movement. We use our
eyes to direct attention to a stimulus and help the brain understand where the body is located
in space (self-perception). We use our hands to simultaneously carry out a determined task
based on the visual information our eyes receive
- In badminton, Hand-eye coordination is very important to hit the shuttle and return it to your
opponent. Body coordination is also needed to execute footwork inside the court.
ACTIVITIES
Questions:
Procedure:
1. Continuously toss and hit the shuttlecock for 1 minute. Avoid dropping the shuttlecock on
the floor.
2. The height of the shuttle cock should be above the head.
3. The badminton racket is held in front of the belly doing forehand and grip.
4. After completing the task, continue practicing the skill to develop hand and eye
coordination.
5. Once you can perfect the toss for 1 minute using forehand grip, repeat steps 1-4 while
doing backhand grip.
