Deterrence is the current flavour.

Till about six months back it was Cross Domain


Deterrence. Now the Americans have come out with the term Integrated Deterrence in
their recent National Security Strategy and National Defense Strategy.

I got CONFUZED. Bengali Medium me pada hoon. Angregi samajh nahi ati. So I read a book
on Cross Domain Deterrence. The book in enclosed.

When you have finished the book do let me know. I will send you the yet to be published
book on Integrated Deterrence.

In one of my recent talks I showed a slide. It is enclosed.

I said, enemy is at the gate. Samne Khada hain in say Eastern Ladakh. I am a paidal senani.
Please tell me what should be my action as bn/brigade/div/corps/army cdr for Intregrated
Deterrence/Cross Domain Deterrence/Deterrence/Dissuance/Compellence/Coercion.

Don’t tell me about whole of govt/nation/society approach. I don’t understand these. Sar
ankho par. Tell me what I have to do.

In the current sit, do you really believe we can take POK? Can you logistically sustain your
offensive formations on a long treacherous road to take back Aksai Chin?

Politicians have their own compulsions. Let us not get into those. We, as faujis, have to put
our head down and put in sustained hard work to develop those capabilities. Resources are
at a premium. We have to use our funds judiciously.

We are up against a formidable, cunning enemy. We have to prepare accordingly.

These terms like Integrated Deterrence, All domain Operations (advanced version of Multi
Domain Operations) etc can take the back seat.
