Another gold for Obiena; Maintains his winning streak

The Filipino pole vault record-holder has yet again made his country proud as he wins another
gold and meets a new record last August 31, 2022, in Sankt Wendel, Germany.
In setting a new meet record, Ej Obiena outperformed fellow World Olympians Menno Vloon of
the Netherlands and Anthony Ammirati of France but also set a new meet record. Obiena had
tried to breach the six-meter plateau for the very first time but fell short thrice. Even so, Mr.
Obiena continued his streak of significant victories, taking home his third gold and a fourth
consecutive podium place in a remarkable span of just over a week.
In a Facebook post, Obiena wrote: "Third attempt on opening height made this competition even
more breathtaking. As always the competition atmosphere was amazing and thank you for
having me”.
Our pole-vaulting wonder won't have much time to recuperate as he has competed in the
Memorial van Damme, a Wanda Diamond League event, September 2, and will be competing
again this Sunday, September 4, by the ISTAF 2022 in Berlin, Germany. And on September 11,
the Golden Fly competition in Schaan, Liechtenstein, marks the culmination of his hectic
itinerary.
