Ybor City:
 Ybor City is the neighborhood where we stayed. It is a historic neighborhood that
reflects its multi-ethnic diversity, which was founded as an independent town in 1885 by
a group of cigar manufacturers led by Vicente Martinez-Ybor. Spanish and Jewish people
also lived in today’s old historic houses in the neighborhood, which nowadays serve as
rental houses for tourists. Cuban and Spanish immigrants who worked in the cigar
factories represented the original population of Ybor City. Aside from Cuban and
Spanish people, Jewish people also lived in today’s old historic houses in the
neighborhood, which nowadays serve as rental houses for tourists.
Tourism technology training at Dr. Laura K. Harrison’s Access 3D Lab:
 Dr. Laura K. Harrison introduced us to many lab projects. One of the projects they are
most proud of is the project “Heritage and sustainability at Egmont Key Island”. This
island represents National Wildlife Refuge and possesses great historical and cultural
importance. The team works on preserving the cultural and historical sites on the island
in digital form. This is of particular significance, as climate change and coastal erosion
are the most threatening factors that are making the island disappear.

 Dr. Laura K. Harrison and her assistant Kylie Dillinger introduced us to their lab
equipment. Besides, they showed us how to properly scan some objects of different
dimensions, structures, and colors. After that, they offered us the chance to scan
selected artifacts by ourselves. I, particularly, got to scan the entire room using Faro
Focus, the bigger 3D laser scanner. I moved the scanner several times in the room in
order to capture every corner of the room and make an excellent scan of the room.
Similarly, I wanted to find out how people usually scan underwater cultural heritage.
Assistant Kylie answered my questions and shared some interesting impressions from
her fieldwork.
Tour of Tampa Campus, University of South Florida:
 The University of South Florida was established in 1956. There are more than 50,000
students across three campuses. Those campuses are located in Tampa, Sarasota-
Manatee, and St. Petersburg, FL. Also, we learned that USF is recognized as the fastest-
rising university in the nation.

 Their mascot is Rocky the Bull.
