Many developing countries are currently expanding their tourism industries.

Why is this the

case? Is it a positive development?

It is widely known that tourism is an incredibly robust and fast-growing sector, especially in
various developing countries. This essay will focus on key causes leading to this trend as well as
both the merits and demerits this phenomenon brings people.

There are several reasons why many developing countries are prioritizing hospitality and catering.
The primary reason for this trend would be that tourism enables developing nations to quickly
attract foreign investment, resulting in the rapid expansion of infrastructure and other industries.
Not only that, developing countries are able to monetize their own culture and introduce
themselves to residents around the globe through the development of tourism. Consequently, both
the revenue of the nation and the related intrinsic characteristics of the area will see considerable
growth.

On the other hand, expanding tourism industries has some demerits. The most notable drawback is
without doubt the detrimental effect on the environment. Thousands of acres of land may have to
be cleared in order to facilitate golf courts, hotels and other amenities. Moreover, there is also a
likelihood that historic objects w severely damaged by travelers if local authorities do not protect
them properly. More importantly, local residents have to change their lifestyles as a result of this
development, thus losing their traditions and customs.

In conclusion, tourism is expanding as a result of its importance to the economy of the developing
countries. It not only encourages the countries to develop but also demonstrates the national
image. However, it also exerts negative effects such as diminishing tradition and the natural
environment.
