FIELD NOTE
Field Note 2
Module 2- measuring behavior, demonstrates both C-7 (design and implement sampling
procedures) and C-9 (select a measurement system to obtain representative data given the

dimensions of behavior and the logistics of observing and recording) of the BACB Task List.
The types of sampling procedures discussed in this module were partial interval recording, whole
interval recording, and momentary time sampling (C-7.) As a behavior analyst, it is important to
note the differences when designing and implementing sampling procedures to ensure accurate
data collection.
differentiate between sampling procedures in the workplace. The sampling datasheet (provided
in Module 2) required students to observe “complaining” and “writing” using partial interval
recording, whole interval recording, and momentary time sampling. I would say that the
sampling datasheet reflected C-9 of the BACB Task List most appropriately. C-9 focuses on
selecting the most appropriate measurement system and providing representative data. After
completing the assignment, I can conclude that whole interval recording and momentary time
sampling underestimated the occurrences of behavior. Whereas the Active Student Response
mentioned that partial interval recording may have overestimated the occurrences. When
selecting which measurement system to use, it is crucial to select the measurement system that
represents the data most accurately. This being said, the overall goal is to improve behavior.
