Summary

In the writing “Succes Story” James Gould Cozzens discusses Richard’s story. He
met him in Cuba and this man was a short, sharp-faced, agreeable chap.
Richard was from some not very good university engineering school and wasn’t
really smart but he had been made a vice-president and director Panamerica
Steel. This guy was likeable and once task came in, it was an easy job of
inspecting but not for Richard because he didn’t appear ever to have mastered
the use of a side rule. Also, he said that he is the executive type and won’t do
these type of jobs. In January, a meeting on a yacht has been organized. It
belonged to Mr. Joseph Prosserts, the chairman of United Sugar’s board then.
He was very affable and gave some question which were really hard but Richard
happened to know every detail and answer for these questions. They held a
conversation of questions and answers but then a motor was waiting for Mr
Prossert to take him home. After that Richard proposed Mr Prossert to be of
service for him. Prossert gave no answer but Richard believed that this man will
remember him for all the details known by him.

Opinion

In conclusion, I think that Richard is a really confident and determined guy but
he needs to lower his self-esteem.
