1. Introduction

Yamaha F1ZR is one of the most widely used light bike in Indonesia. Although its production
had been discontinued since 2004, the bike itself is still prevalent on the road due to its pricing
position and versatility. The bike is powered with a single piston 2-stroke 110 cc engine and is
equipped with a disc brake for the front wheel and an internally expanding rim brakes for the rear
wheel.

The internally expanding rim brakes consists of two shoes made of asbestos-based material.
Each shoe is pivoted at one end about near a fixed fulcrum. When the brakes is applied, the two
shoes will be expanded and the contact friction between the shoes and the drum produces a braking
torque. Thus, reducing the speed of the bike.

2. Objective
- To re-analyze an internal expanding rim brakes for Yamaha F1ZR rear brake using a
method explained in Shigley’s textbook.

6. Conclusion

From the analysis, we obtain the actuating force for Yamaha F1ZR rear brake is 619 N. In
addition to that, we also find the braking capacity to be 133 Nm, and the support reactions as
stated in the support analysis.
