CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

The chapter present background of the stuy, problem identification, problem limination, research
question, research objective, research benefit, definition of key terms.

A. Background of The Study


Watching
There are four skill of learning English, they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Those skills are important to learning English. Speaking are most step learning Speaking skill
after listening skill. speaking single most important aspect of learning a second foreign
language, succes is measured in terms of the ability to carry out of the conversation in the
language. Speaking is very important because speaking help us to communicate with other
person. That is why in all of school teaching speaking must be focused to make the students
are capable to speak English well.
Clark (2007) “speaking, the speaker expres their thought and feeling in words, phrases and
sentences following certain structure which regulates the meaning of sentence.” The
students must be able to organize to cinstruct the sentence, spelling, grammar,
pronounciation, and vocabulary to speaking well.
Megawati (2019) “speaking is the performance skills English. When students learn English,
they have to practice and also produce words, sentence by speech.” Learning speaking
English most be able to always practice the speaking. Practice speaking will be accelerate to
speak English very well.
Scott Thombury (2005) “speaking is so much a part of daily life that we take it for granted.
The average person procedures tens of thousands of words a day, although some people-
like auctioneers and poloticans-may produce even more than so natural interal is speaking
that we forget how we once struggled to achieve this skill-until, that is, we have to learn how
to do it all over again in a foreign languages.” Every person produce a thousands words
everyday.
The students are shy to speak English because their pronounciation was bad and worried if
they were making mistake. Other problems, the students feel bored if situation in the class is
monotone because there is no new situation and students feel difficult to improve their
speaking if the strategy just like conversation or dialogue.
Movie is kind of media that researcher believes will makes students intrested, because a
part of students likes watching movie in them life. Watching movie will be able to favorite
activity in their life. Moreover from movie learning environment are the plot, actors,
characteristic, and the dialogue as well. Lynch (2006) “there are five reason why movie is
used as teaching media there are varieties of accent cen be demonstrated, slices of culture
can be demonstrated, historical change can be easily demonstrated, using audio-visual
elements aids larning, and movies are great to watch. In this study the used short duration
of the movie. A movie are choosen to anticipate the students are not bored when they
watch movie.
Teaching speaking by using movies as media in the classroom is a good way to facilitate the
students how to speak well by imitating the character in the movie. So they are learning the
style, intonations, culture, history, etc. Munadi (2008) “the good movie has some
characteristics there are increase students proclivity, show right and autentic view, up to
date in setting, clothes, and environment, appropiate with the audience understnding, show
the structure of the language, regulate the essential and the sequance of the movie, and
satisfy the audience on the technique of making movie.”
The researcher chooses movie as media in teaching of speaking. The researcher has opinion
that by using movie, students will be more interested in learning speaking because it
presents picture animation or audio-visual. If techer chooses video/film which approciate
with students need, it will motivate students interested, providing realistic listening practice,
stimulating language use, improve words, and awerness.
Based on the background above the writer would like to conduct an experiment of teaching
speaking using movie done at senior high school. That is the reasons why the writer chooses
“REPRODUCING MOVIE DIALOG TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL STUUDENTS AT SMPIT INSAN
PERMATA MALANG GRADE 8TH” as the title of this research thesis.

B. Problem Identification
Based of the background of the research, the problems of the researcher formulates the
statement of the problem as follows:
1. What extent can dialogue movie improve the students speaking skill?
2. How is the interest when dialogues movie are implemented in speaking class?

Based on the problem, this research aims as follows:
1. Finding out whether or not movie dialogue in teaching improve the students seaking
skill.
2. Finding out whether or not interest of movie dialogue in teaching improve the students
speaking skill.

F. Research Benefit
This research is useful to increase knowledge a variety of learninng English. To practice
analyze the problem which occur in field pr in the class. Movie dialogue can be a method of
learning English and it can to improve speaking skill quickly. It can more interested and give
more attention of learning English. Movie is a once of favorite media half of all students. And
they should not feel bored in learning English.
G. Definition of Key Terms
This research, the researcher conducting the learning of speaking using movie. The
limination of research could be interested in learning English only to improve speaking skill
students, speaking skill in terms of speaking accuracy dealing with pronounciations and
vocabulary in speaking fluency.

LITERATURE REVIEW

This chapter presents the review of related literature dealing with some related research findings,
some pertinent ideas, resume, theoretical framework and hypothesis.

Sintia Prasetia (2014) the result of this research showed that using movie in the teaching ang
learning of speaking was proved to improve the student’s speaking skill in five in five aspect :
vocabulary, pronounciation, grammar, fluency and comprehension. The student’s were
more enthusiastic in learning speaking. They could actively involve in the speaking learning
proces. Moreover, the student’s were more confident and fluent in speaking practices.
Erwin Seftiarini (2015) The result showed that short mvie was effective to solve the student’s
speaking problems. It required two cycles to be succesful by observing the student’s
behavior and response student’s showed that the student’s more active in teaching learning
process although some student’s were not cooperative with researcher’s instruction. But the
student’s were motivied to learn speakin class, they enjoyed and interested to follow
teaching and learning pocess. The presence of short movie to improve student’s speaking
had given taught by using short movie. The presence of this research also gave the student’s
new perspective that they could also related the material to their hobby like movie, music,
etc. So, the researcher concluded that short movie can be used to solve student’s practical
problems in learning spaking.
