RIVERS
MEGHALAYA
These are some of famous rivers of Meghalaya :-

Umngot River - This river is Popularly known as Dawki river. It is the

cleanest river in Meghalaya.
Simsang River - This is the biggest river in Meghalaya. Simsang is also
known as Someswari.
Myntdu River -There are a lot of famous tourist spots around the river.
Umiam River - The major tourist spot in this river is its lake. A lot of water
sport activities take place in this river Like kayaking, rafting, and boating.
Digaru River - it is the waterbody of the locals. surroundings of the river
are dense and green which makes it home to a lot of birds and animals.
MINERALS
Meghalaya:- The
State of Meghalaya
is endowed with
large deposits of a
number of
valuable minerals
such as coal,
limestone, kaolin,
clay, granite, glass-
sand and uranium.
 Endemic and Exotic species
Meghalaya - Some of the Endemic and Exotic species found in
Meghalaya are Adinandra griffithii, Ceropegia arnottiana,
Clematis apiculata, Elaeagnus. simonsii, Ilex venulosa, Livistona
jenkinsiana, Ophiorrhiza subcapitata and Trivalvaria kanjilalii.
Aerides multiflorum, Coelogyne corymbosa, Cymbidium
elegans, Dendrobium devonianum, Dendrobium longicornu,
Paphiopedilum insigne, Rhynchostylis retusa, Phaius
tankervilliae, Thunia marshalliana and Vanda coerulea are few
of the exotic orchids of Meghalaya

 Wildlife
Meghalaya:- The rare and highly endangered Clouded
Leopard is the State Animal. Other carnivores found here
are Leopard, Leopard cat, Jungle cat, Golden Cat, Marbled
Cat, Dhole or Indian Wild Dog and Indian Wolf. Herbivores
commonly found are Elephant, Gaur, Sambar, Serow and
Barking deer.
 Water Pollution
Meghalaya- On average 43% of water bodies are
polluted. The highest percentage of pollution is found
in the Jaintia region followed by Khasi and Garo
regions. The figure is alarming for a small state and
calls for an urgent need for sensitization of the
community to take immediate steps to mitigate the
situation.
