Charter

ARTICLE I – Name and Objectives


Name and Objectives
1) The name of this organization shall be the Longwood Center for Cyber Security (LCCS).
2) The objectives of the LCCS shall be as follows:
a) In cooperation with the Longwood University College of Business and Economics (CBE), to promote awareness of
issues relating to Cyber Forensics and Cyber Security including the disciplines of cyber forensics, information
security, network security, computer investigations, and information assurance.
b) To support the mission of the CBE to inspire, enable, and actively engage learners to pursue a quality technical and
business education by introducing the knowledge, skills, and understanding critical to being a valuable contributor to
the Information Technology profession and society. These critical skills include Cyber Forensics and Cyber Security.
c) To provide an outreach to the local, regional, and international communities, focusing on continuing education,
workshops, and meetings promoting the study and practice of Cyber Forensics and Cyber Security.
d) To provide library and reference collections of textbooks, monographs, and journals in Cyber Forensics and Cyber
Security.
ARTICLE II - Director
1) The LCCS shall have a Director who will be a faculty member of the CBE.
2) The duties of the Director are administrative in nature. These include:
a) Communication with the International, National and Regional organizations involved in Cyber Forensics and Cyber
Security research and education.
b) Insuring the CBE remains in compliance with nationally recognized standards in Cyber Forensics and Cyber Security
research and education; and maintaining current certificates of compliance with those standards where such
certificates may exist and be applicable to the Center.
c) Collaborate with International, National and Regional institutions as appropriate.
d) Coordinate with other Longwood University departments that offer courses that encompass topics in information
assurance or security.
ARTICLE IV - Organization
1) The LCCS resides within the CBE, which is ultimately responsible for its operation.
2) The Director of the LCCS reports directly to the Dean of the CBE.
3) An administrative assistant will be appointed to support the Center and will report to the Director.
4) It is not anticipated that there will be any business or other matters of fact initially that require action by interested
parties. For that reason, there is currently no provision for regular meetings.
ARTICLE V – Location and Resources
The Center will initially consist primarily of a Laboratory Classroom used for research and instruction, a Web site, a Server
room equipped appropriately for research and virtualized instruction in Cyber Forensics and Cyber Security, and a resource
library.
1) The web site will not require additional resources other than the time and office resources of the administrative assistant
to maintain it.
2) The LCCS will maintain the resource library holding the software, books, papers, monographs, and other hard-copy
resources.
3) The LCCS will maintain the facilities, hardware and software for the Server room and the Laboratory Classroom.
4) Any budget for the operation of the LCCS will be developed in consultation with the Dean of CBE, who will be the final
authority on the use of funds.
ARTICLE VI - Amendments
Proposed amendments to this Charter must be submitted to the Director of the LCCS in writing. Amendments must be
approved by the Dean of the CBE.
Mission Statement
The Longwood Center for Cyber Security, (LCCS) at Longwood
University will provide resources and direction for developing research,
courses, awareness and solutions for issues relating to Cyber
Forensics and Cyber Security.

LCCS will provide direction to the Longwood University and the


Longwood University College of Business and Economics (CBE) in
providing courses and modules supporting the disciplines of cyber
forensics, information security, network security, computer
investigations, and information assurance.

LCCS will create a partnership between Longwood University and the


regional Virginia School Districts and Community Colleges in
developing and coordinating programs and curriculum to support
interest and education in Cyber Forensics and Cyber Security.

LCCS will create a partnership between Longwood University, the


Association for Digital Forensics, Security and Law (ADFSL) and
industry building upon Longwood University’s solid foundations in this
increasingly globally important problem domain.
