Animal Farm, one of the most recognized allegorical novels written by George Orwell for
the general audience, the story depicted a symbolic writing for Russia during the 1975 revolution,
the trickery, deception, politics, rebellion, and manipulative propagandas is all what the novella
forms into words and minds of the readers. The story started with the animals on the Manor Farm
of their farmer named Mr. Jones. The plan was for the animals to switch up the roles and overthrow
humans from the farm, driving them out. And so, the animals build a society supporting 7 tenets
all about Animalism. The life of the animals in the farm demands them to be actively participating,
they are consolidated by the abundance of food and their simple life. Somehow the farm is being
ran by the pigs and the society that based upon democratic principles were torn apart by their own
prideful and narcissistic lust for power. Animals lost their freedom, frightful to challenge the pigs
for them being backed by vicious commandos of dogs. With all the events falling into place the
pigs were no longer any different to humans that they once despised. And so now, will there be a
true equality for everyone, or will the society be always divided into different social classes?
George Orwell’s created Animal Farm in a way that depicted revolution that can be
mirrored in many worldly events such as the Russian revolution, WWII and the rise of
Communism in eastern Europe. In animal farm an analogy of the Russian communist over Soviet
Union was referred by the animal revolution specifically for Bolshevik Russia, there were
references from real life that were put in-role for the animals in the story, Stalin is personified by
Napoleon, the lead pig who completely rules over the Animal Farm, and disposes who are not
loyal to him and his goals. These were evident in historical records of Stalin, purging whoever
comes his way in the World War II. The farm’s economical system revolves around trading

resources from other farms, but at certain point, Napoleon decided to purchase goods to a nearby
farm called Pinchfield. Although, Mr. Frederick quickly turns against the Animal Farm an
allegorical metaphor for Hitler and Russian involvement in WWII. The way Orwell wrote this
novel was precise, to the point and simple, he gave it a comprehensive plot and does not spend too
The major themes covered in the novel was (a) Leadership and Corruption – as depicted
through Napoleon’s propaganda with the help of Squealer, although in the beginning he shared his
views for their community with Snowball, the most creative one but later then he was forced to go
away because of Napoleon. He then began acting the way humans treat them before, losing their
principles and reasoning due to his lust over power, by the end of the story, he proves to be as cruel
as Mr. Jones and exploits the animals and his power in the name of leadership. (b.) Control the
Mentally weak – the novel shows that the people with sharp minds control the ones with the weak
minds, the pigs, who are mentally sharp, took over the revolution. Even among them, Napoleon,
Snowball, and Squealer prove leaders and compete with each other whereas the most devious and
deceitful, Napoleon wins and forced Snowball to flee. Napoleon, then uses the other pigs to exploit
his power over the animals. (c.) Rules and Orders – Animal Farm also shows that the rules and
orders suits the upper class that exploits them and change them whenever the time suits for them,
the animals are amaze by the speed the pigs were able to change the rule and Squealer changes the
order. Even the main slogan of the animals were changed from all animals are equal to some animal
are equal by the end. (d.) Violence – the novel shows that every revolution and power
usurpation involves violence and can only be defied by violence. In the beginning, when the

animals stood for themselves to rebellion, they resort to violence and switched up to the roles for
Mr. Jones ownership. They again face violence when the neighboring farms tried to capture them,
also when Snowball leaves the farm there were violence in the midst of the farm.
In the story, the propaganda was their tool that they use to control the masses and those
who oppose Napoleon’s rule are outrightly killed. Overtime, their so called equality and their
principles was then bent to the need solely of the pigs who outsmarted the other animals, this kind
of situations where the strong are taking advantage of the weak are well observed in every society
globally especially, to our government, with the climatic issues still going strong and is being used
as a segway to their ulterior motives, individuals and innocent poor lives as well as the environment
are being caught in the middle of the webs of these so called leaders. The poor will always be
oppressed by the privileged. It seems that Orwell’s message is to point out how people can be
easily tempted by power, the flaws with the Animal revolution was an analogy for the Russian
communism and revolution. Napoleon and the pigs use oppressive and violent methods to create
distance on their social class as leader to their jurisdiction, to take over the farm as well as steal
the rights of the animals. Members of their community were unable to stand for themselves,
powerless, manipulated since most of them don’t even know what situation they are in also due to
the propaganda of pro-government and meticulous brainwashing. It will always be heaven and
