ARDUINO UNO R3 Programming Arduino

You can use the excellent Arduino programming software to

download “sketches” (the Arduino name for a program) to your
Arduino via USB. The Arduino software runs on Windows,
Macintosh OSX, and Linux operating systems and may be freely
downloaded from www.arduino.cc. Alternatively, you can use our
free Flowino software for a simple flowchart based programming
system (Windows only). This works by dragging and dropping icons
on screen - no program language knowledge required! Flowino
includes motor and servo control symbols and is available as a free
download from the Arduino page at www.mindsetsonline.co.uk.
The CAD files and schematic are also available to download from
here.
An Arduino program to repeatedly run a motor forward for five

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based seconds then reverse the motor for five seconds is shown below:

The Arduino Uno has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can
be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic
resonator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a
reset button. It contains everything needed to support the
microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable
or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.

Each of the 14 digital pins can be used as an input or output. They

PRIMARY IQ CONTROLLER

Primary IQ
The Primary IQ controller is programmed
simply by pressing buttons on the box -
no computer is needed. Press the buttons
in the required sequence then press the
RUN button. The IQ automatically repeats
the sequence. The two AA batteries in
the controller are sufficient to power
bulbs, buzzers and motors without the
need for a separate power supply.
This is a UK first – originally developed for secondary work, now

packaged for all aspects of primary control work.
The Primary IQ controller makes it easy to introduce control without

using a computer. You can program IQ to turn things such as
motors on and off simply by pressing buttons: the controller
remembers the order in which you press the buttons and this
becomes the stored program.

Application notes: Any music source that drives a small earpiece is

suitable for this project. The amplifier is fitted with a 3.5mm socket
so that a standard lead from MP3 player etc. can simply be plugged
in. An external socket can be soldered to the board. Volume is
controlled at the player end itself.
Power requirements: The amplifier can be used with a wide range

of batteries – e.g., small PP3 (9v) or 4D cells (6v). Batteries capable
of supplying higher currents give better sound and less distortion at
high volumes: a four AA battery pack is ideal. Any PSU designed for
audio applications is also ideal. Board includes battery snap.
Loudspeaker requirements: The amplifier can be used with any

size loudspeaker in the 4 – 8 ohm range. The use of lower
impedance speakers accentuates base sound - but these are less
common. If more base sound is required, one method is to use two
8 ohm loudspeakers connected in parallel for each channel.

This amazing solar-powered model has been designed for Mindsets

by product designer Neal Turner - whose work took centre stage at
the 2012 international Kinetica exhibition. Neal has designed a
concept vehicle, of which this is the working model, to demonstrate
that wheels can function using rim bearings rather than a
conventional bearing at the centre (hubless wheel).
The model itself was originally conceived as an executive toy, but

we think the styling can provide design inspiration for pupils and, at
the same time, illustrate the creative potential of the laser cutter.
Powered by a single solar cell, the beautifully engineered and
detailed vehicle comes as a kit of parts that can be assembled in
approximately 30 minutes.
The model is powered by a single solar cell that stores energy in a

supercapacitor. When the capacitor is charged, it is simply switched
