Cybercrime: A Human Rights Violation

Cybercrime is a crime that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been
used in the commission of a crime, or it may be the target. Cybercrime may harm someone's security
and financial health. Also called computer crime, the use of a computer as an instrument to further
illegal ends, such as committing fraud, and intellectual property, stealing identities, or violating privacy.

According to GMA News Online there have been a total of 1,211 cybercrime complaints in the
Philippines from the years 2013 to 2015. Internet scams, usually referred to as online scams, got the
most complaints with 366. It generally refers to someone who uses software or online services to scam
or exploit victims, usually for financial gain. In an effort to collect financial or other vital personal
information, cybercriminals may approach potential victims using personal or business email accounts,
social networking sites, dating apps, or other channels. Online libel got 240 complaints. Online libel is a
term used when someone has posted or emailed something that is untrue and damaging about
someone else on the Internet, including in message boards, bulletin boards, blogs, chat rooms, personal
websites, social media, social networking sites, or other published articles. Online threats got 129
complaints. Online threat which is a malicious act that seeks to damage data, steal data, or disrupt
digital life in general. Online threats include computer viruses, data breaches, Denial of Service attacks,
and other attack vectors. Identity thefts got 127 complaints it occurs when someone uses another
person's personal identifying information, like their name, identifying number, or credit card number,
without their permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. Photo and video voyeurism got the least
complaints with 89 complaints. Photo and video voyeurism means the act of taking photo or video
coverage of a person or group of persons performing sexual act or any similar activity or of capturing an
image of the private area of a person or persons without the latter's consent. Other unnamed types of
cybercrime got 260 complaints.

In this age of technology anyone may readily obtain it in this age of technology and quick
internet connection. As a result of the preceding decade's rapid expansion. In addition, anyone can
access a vast world of information thanks to the internet. As a result, crime in general and cybercrime in
particular have surged dramatically. Additionally, the faster internet connection has greatly boosted the
rate of data circulation. Above all, as a result of all these problems, cyber security has grown to be a
significant issue for society. The government has created a number of cybercrime-related legislation in
an attempt to stop the spread of the crime and to protect people's interests. Additionally, these laws
safeguard against cybercrime. In addition, the government has set up cyber cells in police stations to
combat the issue of cybercrime as quickly as possible. Cybercrime is not something that we are unable
to handle on our own. Similarly, we can prevent cybercrimes with a little help from logic and common
sense. Cybercrime is a risky offense against someone's privacy or any material. Additionally, by adhering
to some basic reasoning and utilizing common sense, we can prevent cybercrime. Above all, cybercrime
is against the law and a violation of human rights.
