Description/Purpose: Income Statement Dashboard with Analysis

The income statement, also known as a profit-and-loss statement, shows total revenues and total
expenses over a specific time period. Accountants typically prepare income statements on a monthly,
quarterly, and annual basis.
The purpose of the dashboard is to gauge the department’s financial performance along the way
because its goal is to make a profit. The income statement shows whether the department is making a
profit or not. It sums up all the revenues and subtracts all its expenses. Whatever is left is a profit or loss.
Thru the dashboard, the accountant/Director/Manager can now easily analyze the department’s
financial performance, how the department is performing, and if it is profitable or not. And if not,
changes or preventive action can be made to make it profitable.

2. Power BI Dashboard

 Interpretation:

The dashboard above shows the comparative income statement of the department for the year 2021-2022.
The multi-card shows the current Gross Revenue of 13.7 M, Operating Costs of 12.3 M, and Net Income of 1.3 M. The
current year’s Net Income is 0.63% lower compared to the budget and 260.65% higher compared to last year. It is good
financial performance when actual results exceed the last year.

The Revenue in the year 2021-2022 is higher compare last year due to the increase in the number of students
enrolled with board charges, quarantine food charges, and catering services. The sudden drop in sales in the months of
December, May & June is due to the decrease in campus residents (semester break). The majority source of income for the
department is the Board Charges which means that the revenue is highly dependent on in-campus Students. The Net profit
ratio for the year is 10.04% while the Expense to Sales Ratio is 89.96%. The expense reached is below budget by 68.68% for
the current year.
