A. ANTONINO JESUS MOLINA –

● Born on December 26, 1894


● First performance of Mozart’s opera, Don Giovanni in 1947
● His first music composed is the”Matinal” in 1912
● He died at january 29, 1980

B. ALFREDO SANTOS BUENAVENTURA –

● He was born on May 4, 1904


● He graduate at University of the Philippines Delima in 1934
● He joined Francisca Reyes-Aquino in researching Philippine folksong and dances in 1935
● He composed the accompaniment to the folk dance “Pandanggo sa ilaw” and
incorporated ethnic melodies and instruments to some of his compositions in 1936
● Maria Makiling this is his first famous compositions in 1961
● He was the organist at the Manila Cathedral in 1960
● He became the music director of the UST Conservatory of music in 1961 and the UE
School of music and arts in 1964
● He died at January 25, 1996

C. LUCRESIA KASILAG –

● She was born on august 31, 1918


● She was educated at paco elementary school and graduated valedictorian in 1930, then
she transferred to Philipppines Women’s University for high school, where in 1933 she also
graduated as valedictorian. For college, she graduated cum laude in 1936 with a Bachelor
of Arts, majoring in English, in the same university. She also studied music at St.
Scholastica’s College in Malate, Manila, with Sister Baptista Battig, graduating with a
Music Teacher's Diploma, major in piano, in 1939.
● Her first musiccomposed is the “April Morning” in 1941.
● During World War II, she took up composition, and on 1 December 1945, she performed
her own compositions in a concert at Philippine Women's University.
● She completed a Bachelor of Music in 1949.
● .Kasilag became the Dean of the Philippine Women’s University College of Music
and Fine Arts from 1953 to 1977.
● She died at August 16,2008

D. DR. RAMON PAGAYON SANTOS –

● He was born on February 25, 1941


● He graduated valedictorian at Paig Catholic School, elementary department in 1954.
● He got 2nd prize at Bonifacio Cantennial Composition Contest in1963.
● His first musiccomposed is the “Ang Hardin ni LIgaya” in 1965.
● He also studied in the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1969.
● He became the assistant teacher from 1969 to 1972.
● He began doing fieldwork among folk religious groups in Quezon, collecting and
documenting their music in 1976.
● He became the Dean of the UP College of Music in the late 80’s to the early 90’s.
● He was proclaimed National Artist of the Philippines for music in 2014.
● He is a National Artist of the Philippines for Music in 2015 and at present, a University
Professor Emeritus of the Composition and Theory Department of the University of the
Philippines College of Music.

E. RYAN CAYABYAB -

● He was born on May 4, 1954


● He became involved with the Philippine Madrigal Singers and became acquainted with
Victor Laurel who is a reputed film and theater actor at the time, who often worked with
actress-singer Nora Aunorin 1972
● He took ten years to graduate from the UP College of Music due to doing tours within that
period. He earned a Bachelor of Music, Major in Theory degree in 1983.
● His first music composed is “Mabuhay” the opening song of the 1994 Miss Universe in
Manila.
● He only wrote at least three songs in the 2010s, due to focusing on promoting Original
Pilipino Music for most of the period. In 2020, due to the idle time caused by the COVID-19
pandemic, Cayabyab was able to write at least ten songs in 2020 alone, two of which was
made available in Spotify.
