Question: discuss about menstrual cycle.

- Menstrual cycle is a sequence of events that occur in women’s body as it prepares to the
possibility of pregnancy each month. The average length of a menstrual cycle is 28 days.
- On day one to day five, it is the time when the lining of uterus sheds away through vagina if
pregnancy has not occur. This process can lasts for three days to seven days.
- On day six to fourteen, this is the follicular phase. During this time, oestrogen level will rise
and cause the lining of endometrium wall to grow and thicken. Other than that, the follicle-
stimulating hormone (FSH) will cause the follicle in the ovaries to grow and develop into a
mature egg or ovum.
- On the day fourteen, it is the ovulation phase that occurs after the sudden increase of
luteinizing hormone (LH) that causes the ovary to release its egg.
- On day fifteen onwards, it is called the luteal phase that lasts until day 28. During this time,
the egg will leave the ovary and begins to travel through the fallopian tubes to your uterus.
The level of hormone progesterone will rise to help the uterine lining for pregnancy. If the
egg becomes fertilized by sperm, the corpus luteum will mature and continues produce
oestrogen and progesterone. If pregnancy does not occur, the oestrogen level and
progesterone level will decline and the thick lining of uterus will shed again. And the menstrual
cycle repeats.
