Introduction
Goal
In this exercise, you will walk through the steps to create a connection from a SAP Analytics Cloud system
to an on-premise SAP ERP system, acquire and visualize the data from the ERP connection.

Background
As illustrated by the below diagram, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) is able to acquire data from on-premise data sources via the
Analytics Cloud agent and HANA Cloud Connector, including SAP Business Warehouse system, SAP ERP system and SAP BI
Platform. In this exercise, we will acquire data from an InfoSet query on the SAP ERP system.

Prerequisites
This hands-on exercise is written based on the following software versions and configuration.
· SAP ECC 6
· HANA Cloud Connector has been setup between the SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) tenant and the on-premise network
· SAP Analytics Cloud Agent has been setup in the on-premise network and connected to the HANA Cloud Connector
· The SAP Analytics Cloud tenant has been configured for the Analytics Cloud agent

Create Connection the SAP ERP System
In this section, we will create a connection to the SAP ERP system on the SAP Analytics Cloud system.

1. Using Chrome browser, enter the


SAP Analytics Cloud tenant URL
your instructor provided to you
and logon with your assigned user
id.

Note:
Replace the XXX in the
“USER_XXX” with your assigned
student number from your
instructor.

Click on and choose


Connection Option.

2. A list of remote connections


shows up.

Click on + on the top-right corner,


and click on Import Data
Connection -> SAP ERP to create a
new connection definition.

3. In the pop-up window, fill in the


following details:

Connection Name: ERPXXX


Server Type: Application Server
System: vhcals4hci
System Number: 00
Client ID: 100
System ID: S4H
Language: en
User Name: wsbw
Password: Password1

Replace XXX with your


assigned number in the
workshop.

Click Create.

4. The newly-created ERP connection


has now been created.

Create Model from the SAP ERP System
Now that the SAP ERP connection is ready to use, we will test it by creating a model from the ERP system.

1. The next step is to create a model


from the ERP system we defined
earlier. To do this, go to the main
menu -> Create à Model.

2. In the New Model wizard, choose


Use a datasource, and click on SAP
ERP on the right panel.

· A new pop-up box shows up.


Choose ERPXXX in the list of
Connections, and click Create
New Query in the Query Name
dropdown list.

· This bring up the query creation


wizard. Set the following values:

Query Name:
ZFlightBookingXXX

Description:
Flight booking query

Select Data:
Global > INFOSET>
ZFLIGHTBOOKING

Click Next.

· The wizard now shows a list of


columns in the dataset, and all
the available columns are
chosen by default.

If the columns are shown with


description, click on the dropdown
icon next the search icon.

From the Show Name dropdown


menu, select Name.

· Remove the following columns


by clicking on the X button to
the right of the selected
columns:

Click Next.

· The prompts screen shows both


optional and mandatory
prompts. The infoset we are
using only has optional
prompts.

Click Next on the Prompts screen.

· The wizard shows the data


preview. Click Done to finish
creating the query.

· The system loads the data from


the SAP ERP system to the
Analytics Cloud tenant. Set the
model name to
ZFlightBookingModelXXX,
where XXX is your assigned
number in the workshop.

· In the left panel, scroll to the


right and highlight the column
SPFLI-AIRPFROM

Create a Description for this


column and link it to
TEXT_SPFLI_AIRPFROM

· We have finished minimum


modeling for this dataset, for
the purpose this exercise. Click
Create Model, and click Create
in the pop-up window to
confirm creation of the model.

· The model has now been


generated. Click Save in the
next screen. A more complete
model that has cleansed the
data and setup proper type for
all data columns can be found
with the name of
FlightBookingModelXXX for
your reference.

Visualize ERP Data in a Story
Now that the ERP data has been imported, we will test it by creating a story and visualizing the data. Note
that the purpose of this exercise is not to explore the visualization capabilities in SAP Analytics Cloud, but
just to validate the data that has been imported in a visual manner.

· Go to the main menu -> Create


à Story.

· Click Add Canvas to add a


canvas to the story.

· Add a chart to Page 1 by clicking


Chart.

· In the prompt window, select


Existing Model, and choose the
model previously created.

· The default chart is a bar chart.

We will now create a Flight Sales


by Plane Type bar chart.

Choose SFLIGHT_PLANETYPE as
the dimension.

Similarly choose SFLIGHT-PRICE as


the measure for Axis 1.

Resize the chart to a proper size.

· Save the story by clicking on the


dropdown next to the Save
icon.

Save the document.

the story title and description
(optional).

Name your story


FlightBookingStory_XXX, where
XXX is your assigned number in
the workshop.

· We have now successfully


imported and visualized data
from the SAP ERP system. A
more complete story named
“FlightBookingStory_XXX” can
be found in the system for your
reference.
