TITLE: DRAG FORCE IN FLOW OVER A BODY

OBJECTIVE:

1. To measure the drag coefficient, CD of a bluff body over a range of velocities.

2. To compare the experimental results with published data.

EQUIPMENT

Wind tunnel and accessories.

METHOD

1. Measure the diameter of the hemisphere.

2. Fit the hemisphere body to the balance arm, open and facing flow first and then open
end facing downstream.
3. Balance the arm.
4. Switch on the blower fan and to flow velocity of 5 m/s.
5. Balance the arm again and record the reading.
6. Increase the velocity for a few steps, balance the arm and note the reading.

THEORY

Drag coefficient

RESULT/ DISCUSSION

Range the Reynolds during your experiment in comparison to the published data.
