The Company that I chose is Harvey Norman. Meanwhile the chapter that
I related on is Chapter 8.

Harvey Norman is a large Australian-based,

multi-national retailer of furniture, bedding,
computers, communications and consumer
electrical products. It mainly operates as a
franchise, with the main brand and all company-
operated stores owned by ASX-listed Harvey
Norman Holdings Limited. As of 2016, there are
280 company-owned and franchised stores in
Australia, New Zealand, Europe and South-East
Asia operating under the Harvey Norman,
Domayne and Joyce Mayne brands in Australia, and
under the Harvey Norman brand overseas.

The Inventory Management System that Harvey Norman used throughout their
operation: -

Uses an integrated modular system called SAP System for its inventory management process.
SAP was used to monitor the inventory management process for all 26outlets in Malaysia. It
can be managed by the respective Operations Retail at the HQ level in the respective
department. The supervision and monitoring of the inventory management system and
process is the responsibility of each outlet manager. Apart from that, the main duties of outlet
manager are to ensure a smooth operations process and the sales at the outlet level and to
report to the Operations Retails Manager at the HQ. Consequently, there is no specific and
authorised personnel to control and take care of the inventory management process itself.
This can lead to the fraud in the form of thefts of stocks, supplier frauds or administrative
loopholes, which are one of the challenges facing in the retail industry

The methods of tracking inventory that they use: -

Harvey Norman uses both Perpetual inventory system and Physical inventory system to track
their inventory on their regular basis of their operation. The strategies that they use on
Perpetual Inventory system is Manual system and Computer Based system, The Manual
system is being used by employees to gather records of sales on paper and enter the
information into the inventory system meanwhile for Computer based system when their
operation have met their point-of-sale, their terminal will automatically feed sales transaction
data directly into a computer.

Physical Inventory System in Harvey Norman been used by using Tickler Control strategy.
This strategy being used mostly in their warehouse because Harvey Norman handles and
stored huge electrical products such as Refrigerator and Washing Machine that needs to be
physically counted each day so that the entire inventory is accounted for on a regular basis.
