To the Class Advisers: Tuesdays and Wednesdays – English Thursdays and Fridays - Filipino

SUGGESTIONS on What to do:

FOR STRUGGLING READERS:
1. Call one poor reader to sit beside you and let him bring an English notebook and a ballpen. Other poor readers will join
reading a story with the other students.
2. Once he sits beside you, get the reading materials (cards) and let him read the cards one by one. If he can’t read, let him
repeat after you.
3. Separate the card where he was not able to read the word and let him repeat it once all words in the cards are read.
4. If he can read well all the words in the activity cards, please accomplish the tracking record by checking the column of the
activity. If not, please let him continue to read by correcting the mispronounced or wrongly read word until he can perfectly
read all.
5. Give a 5 - item written test by dictating words found in the cards and let him write the words in his notebook.
6. Check immediately.
7. Let him go back to his seat and join with the rest of the class.
8. Call another struggling reader and do the same procedure.

FOR INSTRUCTIONAL AND INDEPENDENT READERS:

1. Let the students sit beside their partners.
2. Distribute stories.
3. Instruct the students to read silently.
4. Pleas instruct them that once silent reading is done, let the slow readers read orally while their partners listen and take down
words that are wrongly read in the notebook of the slow readers.
5. Instruct the slow readers to read the words at home as an assignment.
6. The following day, the slow readers read again the words in their notebooks while their partners listen.
7. Let all the students read silently again and answer the questions. Let them write their answers in their English notebooks.
8. Once they’re done answering, let them exchange their notebooks and do the checking by giving the correct answers.
Note: Dear Class Advisers, you can modify/simplify the instructions. Thank you.
