Before beginning

No special tools are required to install this part.

Kit contents

Before Product Maintenance


1. Turn off the product.

2. Disconnect the power cord.

   WARNING: Turn the product off, wait five seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the product.

Replace the Image Transfer Belt (ITB)


   CAUTION: Do not touch the black-plastic belt. Skin oils and finger prints on the belt can cause print quality problems. Always place
the ITB on a flat surface in a safe protected location.

Step 1 – Remove the ITB

1. Open the right-door assembly.

2. Use both hands to grasp the blue levers (callout 1), apply slight downward pressure, and pull the ITB (image transfer belt) toward you at a 45° angle.

3. Pull the ITB out of the product until two large handles expand along the right and left side of the ITB.

4. Grasp the large handles on the ITB and then pull the ITB out of the product until it stops, and then pull up to remove it from the product.

5. HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective ITB.

Step 2 - Unpack the replacement ITB

   CAUTION: Do not touch the black-plastic belt. Skin oils and finger prints on the belt can cause print quality problems. Always place

Unpack the replacement ITB from the packaging.

Step 3 - Install the replacement ITB

1. To install the new ITB, align the tabs on the ITB with the slots on the product chassis.

NOTE: When installing the replacement ITB, make sure that you remove all of the packing tape and the protective cover sheet.

2. Push the ITB into the product until it firmly sits in place.

Replace the Transfer Roller

Step 1 - Remove the transfer roller

1. Grasp one of the blue features (callout 1) on either end of the transfer roller, and then lift the transfer roller (callout 2) off of the product.

2. HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective transfer roller.

Step 2 - Unpack the replacement transfer roller


Unpack the replacement transfer roller from the packaging.

Step 3 - Install the replacement transfer roller


Place the new roller assembly in place with the roller gear (callout 1) on the right side, and then press down to ensure that the roller shaft seats securely in
the roller clasps (see inset).

Replace the Tray 2 Pickup Roller and Separation Roller Assembly

Step 1 - Remove the Tray 2 pick up roller and separation roller assembly

1. Remove Tray 2 from the product.

2. On the separation roller assembly, slide the lever (callout 1) toward the unlocked icon until it clicks into the unlocked position.

3. Pull the separation roller assembly up and remove it from the product.

4. Locate the pickup roller. Lift one of the two levers (callout 1) on either side of the pickup roller, and then push the right side of the roller in the direction of
the arrow.

5. Remove the pickup roller.

Step 2 - Unpack the Tray 2 pickup roller and separation roller assembly
Unpack the replacement pickup roller and separation roller assembly from the packaging.

Step 3 - Install the replacement Tray 2 pickup roller and separation roller assembly

1. Install the new pickup roller by inserting the left side first into the holder and then pressing the right side with the blue end into position.

2. Install the new separation roller assembly. Make sure that the assembly lever is in the unlocked position, and then press the assembly into place.

3. Slide the assembly lever into the locked position.

4. Reinstall Tray 2 into the product.

Replace Tray 3, 4, 5, and 6 Rollers

Step 1 - Remove the rollers

1. Remove the trays from the product, and then locate the tray 3 rollers on the right-hand side of the tray cavity.
2. Release three tabs, and then pull the rollers in the direction of the arrow.

3. Repeat for trays 4, 5, and 6 if you have them installed.

Step 2 - Unpack the replacement rollers


Unpack the replacement rollers from the packaging.

NOTE: HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective rollers.

Step 3 - Install the replacement rollers

1. To install the new rollers, push the end without the tab into the product until the roller snaps into place.

2. Repeat for trays 4, 5, and 6 if you have them installed.

3. Replace the trays.

4. Close the right-door assembly.

Replace the Tray 1, Rollers

Step 1 - Remove the Tray 1 rollers

1. Open Tray 1 (callout 1), and then remove the pickup roller cover (callout 2). trouble

2. Spread out the pickup roller retainers (callout 1) until both sides unlatch, and then remove the pickup roller (callout 2).

Step 2 - Unpack the Tray 1 replacement rollers


Unpack the replacement rollers from the packaging.

NOTE: HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective rollers.

Step 3 - Install the Tray 1 replacement rollers

1. Install the new pickup roller by pressing it into place between the retainers. Make sure that it is oriented properly, with the flat part of the roller facing
down atop the separation pad, and the round pegs on the end of the roller facing the front.

2. Install the pickup roller cover (callout 1) and then close Tray 1 (callout 2).

Complete the Maintenance Procedure


1. Connect the power cord.

2. Turn the product on.
