Activities
Motivation Good morning, class. Before we
progress to our discussion, let’s
energize first by the activity
entitled “Follow my picked”.

Class, since you are already seated

with your groupmate I want you to
pick 2 from your members. One
will be blindfolded and the other
will be the eyes of the blindfolded
members.
(Each group will decide)
Okay, as your group member is
already blindfolded. Here are the
mechanics of the activity: (it will
be flashed on the screen)

 One representative from

each group will pick 1 paper from
the box which contains the
definition of a word.
 The remaining members
will read and pick one word that is
posted on the blackboard which
they think is the definition of the
word they picked.
 The twist is, the blindfolded
member will be the one to get the
peace and post it in the back of the
classroom. The other member will
be the one who will give the
direction.
 The groups who will post
the right word will be receiving
plus points for our next quiz.

sharing.
What we did in this activity can be
practice in real life, that sometimes
or most of the time we have to trust
and be obedient to achieve
something. And our activity has
something to do with our lesson for
today.
B. Discussion
Proper
Presentation It seems that you are armed for our
today’s lesson. And based on the
activity it seems that you are all
value the importance of obedience.
Did you, class? Yes, ma’am!

Great. I think you are now all ready

to read our short story for today.
Kindly, get and read the story
“Daedalus and Icarus“ by Nick
Pontikis. I’ll be giving you 10
minutes to read the story. You may
highlight important words and ideas
in the text.
Enjoy your reading!
(Student will read the story)
Discussion Time’s up! I bet you are all done
reading the story. Now, I will play
a 4 minutes video of the story for
you to understand the story well.
(Students will view the video
with subtitles)
Let us now start our voyage in the
story as we classify the elements of
the story of “Daedalus and Icarus”.
What is the title? The story’s title is, “Daedalus
and Icarus“ by Nick Pontikis.

Great!
(The teacher will give a short
background about the author.)

Who can give me the characters in

the story? Grace: Daedalus, Icarus, King
Minos, Talus, and the Minotaur.

Correct! How will you describe Matheo: Daedalus was a great

each character in the story? inventor and he is the father of
Icarus. Icarus is the son of
Daedalus. King Minos is the
king of Crete. Talus is
Daedalus's apprentice. And the
minotaur is the monster with the
body of a man but with the head
of a bull.
Fantastic! I am pleased to tell you
that you comprehend the story.

How about the setting? Where did

the story happen?
Sunny: The setting of the story is
Crete which is the vastest island
in Greece.
Good job. Let’s move on to the
plot. Start with the exposition.
Class, can someone tell me how the
story started? Jake: The king of Crete, King
Minos, wanted Daedalus to build
him a palace with high towers
and also a maze called
Labyrinth.

Very good. What is the next part of Rising action.

the plot?

Correct. So what is the rising

action in the story?
Cindy; It is when King Minos
lost her daughter and his
Minotaur and he blamed
Daedalus. With that, he put
Daedalus and Icarus on an island
so they cannot escape Crete.
Great. Let’s now proceed to the
most exciting part of the story,
which is the climax.
What is the climax of the story? Jessa: It is when Daedalus found
a way to escape, to build wings
made out of feather that is glued
by Wax. They used it to fly and
he warned his son to not fly near
the sun because the wax will
melt. But his son disobeys him
that’s why he was drowned in
the ocean.
Magnificent! For the falling
action? Ice: Daedalus grieved for his lost
son and travel to Sicily, where he
built a temple for Apollo and
hung his wings as an offering to
the god.
Great job. And how did the story
end? Synney: Daedalus left Camicus
and went to Sardinia with the
group of Lolaus.

Wonderful! So that’s the end of the

story. Can you now identify the
theme of the story?
Aira: The theme of the story is
first Pride and Punishment.
Because according to Greek
culture, the gods didn’t want
humans to be superior to them
that’s why they punish those
people who they think are doing
things that make themselves
superior. Second is obedience,
we must follow people especially
those who have the authority
because sometimes when you
disobey them there is a
consequence.
Brilliant thought! Can you tell me
what lesson did you grasp in the
story? Set: As a kid or a youth, we must
obey the elders because they
know what is best for us. We
should not be like Icarus that is
because of his stubbornness, he
was drowned to his death.
Yes, that is correct. I am so happy
that you capture the lessons of the
story. Class, give yourselves a
“magnificent clap!”
Analysis Based on the discussion, again what
is the title of the story?
Net: “Daedalus and Icarus”

Great. So what are all the elements

that we tackled in the story?
Jassy: The characters, plot,
setting themes, and lesson of the
story.
Correct. So will you be more
obedient now? Dani: Yes. Because the elders
are just concern about our
welfare that’s why we should
follow them.
That’s good, class!
Generalization Truly, in life, we should be careful
in every decision we make. And we
must always listen to the elderly
because they always know what is
best for us. And regarding
Daedalus’s character, we should
always use our skills and talent for
the good.

Isn’t it, class? Yes, ma’am!

So do you have a question and

clarifications about the story? None, ma’am.
C. Post Activities
Application Let’s proceed to our last activity
for today which is called “ Show
me what you got”. Since you are
now grouped into 5, I will give you
tasks that each group needs to
accomplish and present in front of
the class.

(The mechanics will be flashed

on the screen)
 Group 1: Make a 3 stanza
poem of the story. It can be about
the characters or the story as a
whole.
 Group 2: Make a poster
emphasizing the theme of the story.
Explain it in the class. Once you’re
done post your group output on the
blackboard.
 Group 3: Create a 3-minute
performance of your favorite part
of the story.
 Group 4: Strike a post of
your favorite part of the story and
take a picture then explain the
picture in the class.
 Group 5: Illustrate your
favorite character in the story and
explain why he is your favorite.
 You will be given 10
minutes to work on your group
task.

Questions, class?
None, ma’am.
Good. You may now work with
your groups. (The learners will do the
activity.)
Time’s up! Let’s proceed with the
presentations.
(Each group will present their
works)
Very good presentations! Give
yourselves a ‘Good job!’ clap.
