1. As a Health and Safety Officer, you are required to review the health and safety
performance of the company for which you are working. In your response you
must explain who must be involved in the reviews and demonstrate an
understanding of the items which must be considered in the reviews, using
examples to support your explanation.
2. Fire risk assessment under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO;
2005), rather than Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations
(MHSW; 1999), is fundamental to ensuring that people and the premises are safe
from fire. Explain the key factors to look for under stage 1 of a fire risk
assessment. In your response you must demonstrate an understanding of the
underpinning concepts and ideas including fire hazards and hazards produced by
fire.
3. As a Health and Safety Officer, you are required to give a verbal presentation as
part of new staff induction training entitled ‘Fire hazards and safety’. Prepare the
speech you would give as part of the presentation in which you explain the
following underpinning concepts and ideas:
The fire triangle
How surface material is classified within the UK
The main methods and principles of extinguishing fire
4. Building plans and specifications aid managers to risk assess and plan for the
event of a fire. Explain the following underpinning concepts and ideas in relation
to risk assessment:
The key points which would be considered within plans and specifications
for fire risk assessment
The role of an employer when conducting a risk assessment for those with
special needs and/or requirements within the workplace
