successfully fabricated the “Deployable Green Bamboo Dome”, as a part of the R&D project
“Bamboo as a Green Engineering Material in Rural Housing and Agricultural Structures for
Sustainable Economic Growth” funded by the World Bank under the National Agricultural Innovation
Project (NAIP).

The team, under my guidance, successfully designed and fabricated a 4 metre Geodesic Dome that
can be used in a variety of ways, such as – Green House, Solar House, Cattle Shelter and others. They
also designed a new type of joint that allowed the fabrication of the structure without cracking of
the bamboo and enabled quick assembling and dismantling of the structure. The project won the
best project in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Project Exhibition Competition, I2 Tech
Open House 2010 at IIT Delhi.

The team enthusiastically mentored a group of students from Tagore International School, Vasant
Vihar, New Delhi in construction of the smaller prototype of the dome. This model was displayed at
the 3rd Shanghai International Youth Science and Technology Expo (SIYSTE), where it was adjudged
the “Best Display” out of 34 displays from 17 countries.
