The American mink (Neovison vison) is a predatory mammal of the mink family that
resembles a mink. It has a broad head, short ears, smooth, uniform brown fur with a darker
stripe down the back, short legs, and broad feet. Their fur is highly prized in the fur industry.

It can be a carrier of parvovirus-induced plasmacytosis or Aleutian mink disease (ADV), which

can cause severe immunodeficiency and even death in specimens carrying certain genes. This
mink is a semi-aquatic animal, since it usually lives between water and land. For this reason,
it makes burrows near watercourses and streams in wooded areas. Their preferred habitat is
rocky, wet places, and ferns provide them with shelter.

The American mink is a very agile and fast animal with a light body that moves easily in
confined spaces. The tail of the small animal is almost as long as its body, which gives it great
stability. Like otters, mink have partially webbed feet that allow them to move in an aquatic
environment. Like many other musculines, the American mink is sexually dimorphic. This
means that the males are larger and heavier than the females. On average, a mink weighs 2
kg and is about 60 cm long.
