KARACHI INSTITUTE OF ECONOMICS AND TECHNOLOGY

College of Engineering
Lab Exercise
1. Fabricate the circuit on brad board and make connections with power supply.
2. Connect function generator TTL/CMOS output with HIN input, set Square Wave of 50 𝐾𝐻𝑧,
with Duty Cycle of 33%.
3. Set oscilloscope for dual channel and set channel 1 for trigger input.
4. Connect Channel 1 with function generator output, and channel 2 across resistor load.

Measurement and Waveforms

1. Record the maximum and minimum inductor current value from the waveform and
calculate average inductor current value.
2. Add capacitance calculated in preliminary across load resistance and observe the output
voltage waveform.
3. Record the maximum and minimum value in the output voltage waveform and calculate
output ripple voltage.
4. Vary the input voltage in steps of 0.5 𝑉 from 6 to 10 𝑉𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑠, and record the corresponding
out voltages.

Lab Report

1. Compare the preliminary value with observed values and comment if there is any
difference.
2. Sketch 𝑉𝑜 𝑣𝑠 𝑉𝑖.
3. Analyze the variations in inductor current and output voltage waveform against variations
in duty ratio, switching frequency, and load resistance and comment on their dependence.
4. List down reason for discrepancies between the calculated and measured values for the circuit
and how can be these overcome?
5. Comment on the relationship between the input and output voltages.
6. If the MOSFET was replaced by a BJT, how will the circuit behavior vary?
