News Script (The Battle of Puputan Margarana)

Good morning everyone, welcome back to Global News with me, Aisha Najwa Nazira. Today, 20
November 2020 coincides with the Battle of Puputan Margarana that happened 74 years ago.

The Puputan Margarana battle took place in Adeng Village, Marga District, Tabanan, Bali. The battle
was led by one of Indonesia’s National Heroes, namely I Gusti Ngurah Rai. Where the TKR troops in
this area fought all out to drive out the Dutch troops who came back after the defeat of Japan, to
regain control of their territory which was captured by Japan in World War II, resulting the death of
all I Gusti Ngurah Rai troops who were later remembered as one of the Puputan in the early era of
independence and resulting the Dutch successfully established the State of East Indonesia.

The cause of the Puputan Margarana war was the Dutch who wanted to unite Bali with the State of
East Indonesia which was the result of the Linggarjati Agreement between Indonesia and the
Netherlands. Bali is very disappointed with the results of the Linggarjati Agreement which states that
Bali is not included in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. This triggered the Puputan
Margarana war which refused to unite Bali and the State of East Indonesia.

That is the news that I convey today. See you again on Global News.
