Ice cream shop brings back


memories

cream cones we used to get in
Inverness during the 1950’s
and 60’s at the Freezer Queen just across
from CitrusHigh School. Those cones were
made of soft ice cream and they were out of
this world.
Two ex-policewomen from Chi-
cago, Illinois opened the Freezer Queen (we
called it the Creamette), sometime in the
middle 50's. Hazel and Ethel were tough busi-
ness women who kept a squeaky clean eat-
ing establishment and had a no-nonsense ap-
proach to the many CHS students who pa-
tronized the eatery. There were no inside
accommodations. Customers would drive-up
and eat the food in their cars, take it with
them, or eat on the large wooden picnic table
