New (1gb/2gb) Attach Facts
Most HBAs ship from Vendors defaulted to 1 GB speed
— Exception - SUN PCI and SUN SBUS HBAs ship defaulted to
“Auto”
— You MUST select the speed on the HBA if connecting to a DS-16B2
2 GB Switch
Switch Ports will “auto-negotiate” to 1gb or 2gb speed.
You must SET port speed to match the HBA speed setting.
See HBA kit Release Notes for AIX, Tru-64 & Linux.
1GB HBAs (ex; Lp8000) can be Connected to DS-16B or
Directly to FC4700-2
11
NT & W2K Speed Setting - Default is 1gb
1. Select Run in the Start menu, the Run dialog box appears.
2. In the Open field, type: elxcfg The Emulex Configuration Tool
dialog box opens.
3. Select the adapter that you want to configure from the adapter list.
4. Click the Tuning Menu button and select Link Control. The Link
Control Parameters dialog box opens.
5. Select the appropriate speed for the device to which the HBA connects.
— Do not set it to Auto
6. Click OK to close the Link Control Parameters dialog box.
7. Click Apply to apply this speed to the adapter you selected in step 3.
8. If you want to change the speed for another adapter, go back to step 3.
9. Click Exit to close the Emulex Configuration Tool dialog box.
10. Reboot your system.
12
Solaris Speed settings - Default is 2 gb
For Solaris, the link-speed of a new HBA defaults to auto-negotiation
mode. The HBA speed must be set to 1 or 2, depending on your
configuration.
— Define the speed, in the /kernel/drv/lpfc.conf
or/kernel/drv/lpfs.conf,
— specify link-speed=1 or link-speed=2
This parameter exists for the 4.11x and 4.20x drivers that also
support LP8000 HBAs. However, it applies only to the
LP9002L or LP9002S.
13
AIX Link Speed Setting - Default is 1gb
To create fchan devices, type cfgmgr.
To put each CLARiiON fchan device into the defined state, type
rmdev -l fchann. where n is the number of the adapter. For
example, the first adapter in the system is fchan0.
List the adapter entries by entering # lsdev -Ccadapter
The system lists all adapter entries.
To change the link speed, type chdev -l fchann -a
link_speed=2gig.
14
Q-LOGIC Speed Settings for Netware & Linux - Default 1gb
Boot the system. At startup, watch for the QLogic BIOS screen and when
prompted to enter Fast!Util, press Alt-Q.
1 Select host adapter.
4 Press the down-arrow key until you select Data Rate, and press Enter.
5 Select the appropriate speed for the device to which the HBA connects.
EMC recommends using option 0 for 1 Gbit or option 1 for 2 Gbit.
6 Press Esc until you reach the Save Changes prompt, and save the changes
for this adapter.
Repeat steps 1through 6 for each adapter.
15
New “Feature” of NT and W2K driver
IMPORTANT
— This driver installation changes the Node World Wide
Node Name Assignment to a unique value for each
HBA installed.
— Done so WW Node names of healthy HBAs are not
effected when one HBA is replaced in a server.
— This will impact any previously configured storage
groups with the v4-1.27a3 driver and will require them to
be reconnected via the Navisphere
16
Steps to take following Windows Driver update.
— Stop and prevent I/O from server
— Remove the server from all storage groups via Navi Manager.
— Perform a “de-register” of the HBAs from the subject server
— Update the driver
— Reboot the server and allow Navisphere Agent to start. The reboot
will cause the new WW Node Names to log into the core of each
array. The Navisphere agent in the Server will perform the
“register” function.
— Reconnect the server (or new HBAs) to the appropriate storage
group for that array
— Reboot the host in order for it to find it’s Storage
— Repeat the de-register, and reconnect on any array wghere this
server has storage

20
Switch Features
— 16 non-blocking ports provide full-duplex, throughput bandwidth at either
1.0625 Gbps or 2.125 Gbps.
– 16 LEDs (green/yellow) to indicate status for each port
– 16 LEDs (green/dark) to indicate link speed for each port
– Universal ports self-configure as F_ports, FL_ports, or E_ports.
— One LED (green) to indicate system power-on status
— Fibre Channel auto-sensing ports self-negotiate to the highest speed
supported by attached devices.
— Trunking allows grouping of up to four ports together to create high-
performance 8 Gbps Inter-Switch Link between switches.
