STORMING
TABLETOP BATTLEFIELDS
The Mercenaries Kickstarter launches on March 23, 2023,
live from AdeptiCon!
This Kickstarter will bring a slew of much-demanded units to our plastics ForcePack line.
More than three dozen ’Mechs will be included, alongside numerous vehicles for crafting
combined-arms games.

We found during the Clan Invasion Kickstarter that the community loved behind-
the-scenes looks at how we re-imagined fan-favorite
BattleMechs into fresh, modern miniatures. And we
want to offer that again. This time, we’re offering a
look at the new miniatures well before the Mercenaries
Kickstarter launches, as we are so much further along
on the project!

Each of the PDFs in this series walks you

through that re-imagining process. It starts,
of course, with Duane Loose’s amazing original
illustrations. We’ll show you our early, re-imagined
sketches, followed by the 3D renders of each unit, the final plastic
samples, and lastly the miniature, gloriously painted by the Camo
Specs team.

We hope you love this journey as much as we have, and we look

forward to joining you on launch day!

The Ostroc will appear in the Inner Sphere Heavy Recon
Lance ForcePack, while the Mobile HQ will be found in
the Battlefield Support: Objectives ForcePack.
Of the nearly 150 ‘Mechs
reimagined so far,
perhaps none have been
more radically redesigned
than the Ost series. While
they are solid units on the
tabletop, their aesthetics
lay at the fringes of what
makes a ‘Mech feel like
BattleTech. And so our
team felt emboldened to
push far and deep to find
the cool buried in these
unusual designs.

The Mobile
HQ was one of
a handful of
vehicles that
appeared in the
original Technical
Readout: 3025.
Often used more
for flavor than
gameplay on a
table, it remains
a quintessential
BattleTech vehicle.
The sketch of the Ostroc was extremely well-defined, and it was
obvious that Anthony had a clear vision of where the cool lay
for this redesign. It was unanimously accepted.
The first Mobile HQ
sketch adhered rather
closely to the original.
And we all agreed we
should push further,
trying to pull in more
“sci-fi” aesthetics.
These renders really drove home how far we could push redesigns—
in some instances—while still keeping the heart of the original.

As noted, the Mobile HQ is a prime example of a
flavor element that always appears in the fiction
but rarely on tabletops...we hope this changes.

We love drawing upon a myriad of artists and styles for our
work. At the same time, having a consistent line art style and
quality across the entire range of products is fabulous.

Below is not the final plastic miniature. Instead, we thought we’d show off a “master,”
from which the molds are created. You’ll note that the miniature’s details are crisper
here; they must be, as you lose definition in the mold-to-final plastics transition.
We love interweaving many aspects. Giving this Ostroc
the Illician Lancers paint scheme connects this preview
with the new fiction, Riptides—just released—and
Painted by Ryan “B1BFlyer” Peterson
even references the new mercenary-cover Interstellar
Operations: Alternate Eras reprint, making synergy
across the BattleTech universe all the tighter.

Yeah, cannot wait to see this on
tabletops as part of a variety of
cool scenarios.
An ilClan Era unit entry for the Ostroc can be found in
BattleMech Recognition Guide: ilClan, Vol. 21, which you can
find here; the Mobile HQ entry can be found here, in Vol 29.
Riptides, the first of a new series of
mercenary short stories, featuring the Illician
Lancers and Clan Sea Fox, is available now!
