Cooperative Management

Cooperative Management is a program or course designed that aims to provide students with
advanced knowledge on the functional areas of management, even entrepreneurship and
enterprise development that are consistent with the cooperative values and principles. We
need to study cooperative Management as it also helps us determine and develop our personal
responsibilities as individuals. In addition, cooperative learning increases knowledge and helps
perform for the entire team to succeed.

In simple definition, Cooperative management means single or multiple use management by


more than one agency so that each utilizes its particular expertise in order to achieve a
particular management goal (lawinsider.com). It is an effective relationship between
management, organisations or individual with the purpose to increase competitiveness. This
contribute in achieving more effective and equitable systems of resource management.
Cooperative Management has objectives such as to achieve common goals, utilize resources,
fulfil social obligations, maintain economic growth, ensure the survival of a cooperative society
in a fast-changing environment, improve the personality and calibre of people to raise their
efficiency and productivity, and lastly meet the challenge of change.

Cooperative is really significant especially nowadays as people have common concerns, face
struggles and/or are looking for solutions, which cooperatives offer answers. This is the reason
why cooperatives are also important to poverty reduction. According to borgenproject.org,
cooperatives, either social or economic, ensure the growth and prosperity of communities.
Thus, in developing communities which has lack of access to capital, education, and training,
cooperative structures allow them to pool together and use resources not just to solve
problems, but also being able identify common goals and aid poverty. Aside from that,
cooperatives are job providers as it provides livelihood to members, and it contributes towards
gender equality as it expand women’s opportunities to participate in local economies.
Cooperatives are designed to provide support and services to the members of the society, not
to earn profit. They aim to help each other mutually, not to have competition.
As a student, it is significant to study cooperative management as it contributes to our
capability in determining responsibilities, and develop skills and management. Thus, it will start
from simple situations, and through combining teamwork and individual accountability,
students work towards acquiring knowledge and social skills. Learning cooperative
management contributes to the future performance of an individual. In addition, it is also the
teaching strategy that allows us to work together even in small groups of individuals with
different capabilities and backgrounds to accomplish a common goal.
