HISTORY OF THE WORKPLACE

Barangay Maura is located on the Northeastern part of the Municipality of Aparri.

It is bounded on the North by the vast China Sea, on the South by Barangay Gaddang and

Barangay Dodan and Barangay San Antonio on the Eastern and Western parts,

respectively. It is approximately 105 kilometer from Tuguegarao, the Provincial Capital.

Barangay Maura is the largest barangay in terms of population in the poblacion,

based on the recent Barangay Survey, Community-based Monitoring System a total of

8,306.

The word MAURA, as believed by most residents came from two Ybanag words-

MA which means plenty and URANG which was then a word for big-headed Shrimps,

which is usually thrived at swampy areas. The early inhabitants then named the place

Maurang until such time that it was constructed to MAURA.

According to early settlers of the place, the area used to extend from the whole of

Rizal Street towards Sto. Tomas, a sitio along the side of Apagonan River.

Also, some residents claim that the word MAURA was named in honor of the wife

of Don Macanaya, who was then a mayor of this place.

With regards to the creation of the barangay, historians and even the elders of the

place have no exact record as to the date when the barangay was created. However, it is

quite interesting to note that the first inauguration of the barangay was believed to have
