Abstract
Sheet metal forming processes are particularly relevant in the Portuguese an-
tomotive stamping industry, which has a large mumber of existing companies with
a significant impact on the national economy. Recently, there has been an effort
to develop reliable material constitutive models, having in mind the challenges of
a new generation of materials, i.c., Advanced High Strength Steels, in order to im-
prove the prediction accuracy using finite element numerical simulations, concerning
strain distributions, formability, and springback of stamping components. This pro-
posal represents an opportunity to take a step forward on this topic, exploring the
use of new Machine Learning (ML) techniques as reliable numerical modeling tools,
capable of predicting she material behavior for simple and complex strain paths.
‘As a first step for this work, this seminar report. presents a careful literature
review of the most recent ML approaches, describing their applicability for material
constitutive modeling. ‘To effectively develop the ML approaches, extensive experi-
mental work is required to develop a robust and complete database fundamental to
train the ML algorithms. ‘Therefore, several experimental developments are included
in this work to characterize the behavior of sheet metal materials under different
load paths.
