𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥-𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚

GUIDELINES/MECHANICS/CRITERIA

1. The competition is open to all bona fide DMMMSU students.

2. Every Campus must have at least (3) three participants/entries.

3. Participants are allowed to use any graphic software or application.

4. The competition must revolve around the theme: “DMMMSU @ 42: Redefining Excellence”
and submission of entries is until January 11, 2023, at 12:00 PM.

5. All elements of the poster must be of original design and the poster should not have been
previously posted on any social media platform. Submission of plagiarized or unoriginal
entries will result in automatic disqualification.

6. Participants must submit their entries using their official DMMMSU email address to the
official email of USC (uscdmmmsu2022@gmail.com) with a file name format
(DigitalPM_FULLNAME_POSTERTITLE_ CAMPUS).

7. Entries must be in A4 size (Portrait Only) and in JPEG/PNG and high-definition resolution
format (150 DPI).

8. The criteria for judging are as follows:

 Content 35% (Information, emotion, Mood, Feeling, Denotative and Connotative content,
Symbolism, Metaphor, Meaning, Message, and Relevance to the theme)
 Creativity & Aesthetic Appeal 20% (The Poster design should captivate the judges’ appeal
taking into consideration the aesthetic principles of symmetry, focal point, pattern,
perspective, dimensionality, and proportion)
 Originality 25% (It must show the ability to be inventive and creative taking into account the
freshness of design or style.)
 Technical Criteria 20% (Exposure, Focus/Sharpness, Color, and/or Tonal Rendition, contrast,
and lighting.)
TOTAL 100%
9. The posters attaining the top three (3) highest average ratings will be proclaimed as
winners.
10.Recognition and prizes:
1ST PRIZE - Php 1,500.00
2ND PRIZE - Php 1000.00
3RD PRIZE - Php 800.00

Special Award:
People’s Choice Award Php 500.00 (Entry with the highest number of heart reactions. Voting
will end on January 16, 2022, at 12:00 PM)

11.The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.


ESSAY WRITING CONTEST (ENGLISH CATEGORY)
GUIDELINES/MECHANICS/CRITERIA

1. The participants must be bona fide DMMMSU students.

2. Every Campus must have at least (3) three participants/entries.

3. Participants must submit one entry only.

4. The essay must revolve around the theme “DMMMSU @ 42: Redefining Excellence” and will
be composed of a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1500 words.

5. Participants should use the English language only.

6. All entries must be submitted via email to uscdmmmsu2022@gmail.com with a file name
format (EssayEnglishcategory_FULLNAME_ESSAY TITLE_ CAMPUS).

7. Entries must be submitted in MS Word and PDF format.


8. Entries must be submitted until January 11, 2023, at 12:00 PM.
9. The criteria for judging are as follows:

CONTENT (Relevance to the theme, Originality, Comprehensiveness, Insights) 50%


ORGANIZATION (Clarity of thoughts, Creativity, Unity and Consistency) 30%
MECHANICS (Punctuation, Spelling, Capitalization, Grammar) 20%

ESSAY WRITING CONTEST (FILIPINO CATEGORY)
GUIDELINES/MECHANICS/CRITERIA

1. The participants must be bona fide DMMMSU students.

3. Participants must submit one entry only.

4. The essay must revolve around the theme “DMMMSU @ 42: Redefining Excellence” and will
be composed of a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1500 words.

5. Participants should use the Filipino language only.

6. All entries must be submitted via email to uscdmmmsu2022@gmail.com with a file name
format (EssayFilipinoCategory_FULLNAME_ESSAY TITLE_ CAMPUS).

7. Entries must be submitted in MS Word and PDF format.


8. Entries must be submitted until January 11, 2023, at 12:00 PM.
9. The criteria for judging are as follows:

GUIDELINES/MECHANICS/CRITERIA

1. The participants must be bona fide DMMMSU students.

2. Every Campus must have at least (3) three participants/entries.

3. Participants must submit one entry only.

4. The essay must revolve around the theme “DMMMSU @ 42: Redefining Excellence” and will
be composed of a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1500 words.

5. Participants should use the Iloko language only.

6. All entries must be submitted via email to uscdmmmsu2022@gmail.com with a file name
format (EssayIlokoCategory_FULLNAME_ESSAY TITLE_ CAMPUS).

7. Entries must be submitted in MS Word and PDF format.


8. Entries must be submitted until January 11, 2023, at 12:00 PM.
9. The criteria for judging are as follows:

SPOKEN WORD POETRY
GUIDELINES/MECHANICS/CRITERIA

1. The contest is open to all bona fide DMMMSU students.

2. Each campus must have at least (2) two participants only.

3. The entry piece must be an original composition of the entrant(s) and it should be written in
English or Filipino.

4. The entry must revolve around the theme “DMMMSU @ 42: Redefining Excellence” and must not
contain any malicious and offensive content.

5. Each contestant will present their entry face-to-face on January 17, 2022.

6. The piece must have a minimum of (3) three minutes and a maximum of (7) minutes time.

9. Sounds, instrumental, or background music is allowed to complement the delivery. No deduction


shall be made if the contestant chooses not to have a musical background.

10. The criteria for judging are as follows:

A. Message/Content -40%
 The content of the spoken poetry illustrates, interprets, and emphasizes the subject.
 The piece has a powerful and meaningful message to the audience. He/ She may use
imagery to add color and capture the audience’s heart.
B. Delivery and Performance - 40%
 The spoken piece is delivered as to what emotion is asked in the piece.
 Connection to the audience was established from the start.
 Facial expression and hand and body gestures emphasized the different elements of the
performance.
 Eye contact pulled the audience to the message of the spoken words.
 Audience’s attention and interest were captured and sustained throughout the delivery.
 Pronunciation and enunciation sound natural and clear. The audience can understand what is
being spoken.
 Words are pronounced distinctly and correctly. Does not stutter nor stammer.
C. Originality-10%
 The piece must be an original composition of the contestant.
D. Overall impact-10%
 The attire must complement the contestant’s piece.
 The voice, articulation, dramatic appropriateness, and evidence of understanding all seem
on target and unified to breathe life into the piece.

UNIVERSITY-WIDE DEBATE COMPETITION


DMMMSU 42ND FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY

General Criteria & Guidelines


1. Each campus must submit three (3) names of bona fide students in their respective campuses as
participants in the competition.
2. Students who have won debate competition/s in the university or have represented the
university in inter-school debate competitions are disqualified to participate to give chance to
other students.
3. Each team will have one (1) coach. Prior to the event, the order of matches will be decided via
draw lots.
4. The debate competition will be in Asian-Parliamentary Format.
5. The Debate Competition will be led and facilitated by the Chairperson of the Mid La Union
Campus, Ms. Joselle Jea P. Armas.
6. The competition will be on January 17, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at DMMMSU-NLUC, Sapilang,
Bacnotan, La Union.
7. The participants must wear proper and decent corporate attire.
8. The speakers shall speak in the following order:

The Members of the Government side are the following:

a. Prime Minister (PM) - opens the debate, defines, contextualizes the motion, and
advances arguments.
b. Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) - refutes at first instance the case of the opposition, re-
establishes the government’s claim, and advances arguments.
c. Government Whip (GW) - summarizes the case of the government.

The Members of the Opposition side are the following:

a. Leader of the Opposition (LO) - responds directly to the case of the government by
giving a direct clash, and opens the case for the side of the opposition through advancing
arguments. May challenge the definition and paradigm set, if applicable.
b. Deputy Leader of the Opposition (DLO) - refutes the case of the DPM, re-establishes the
case of the opposition, and advances arguments.
c. Opposition Whip (OW) - summarizes the case of the opposition.

9. After the selection of a topic, both teams are allotted ten (10) minutes to discuss and construct
their speeches.
10. Each speaker is allocated five (5) minutes to deliver their constructive speeches. The Reply
Speech will be coming from the first or second speaker of each house and is given four (4)
minutes to deliver the speech. During constructive speeches, a Point of Information (POI) may
be raised after the first (1st) minute up to the fourth (4th) minute. POIs may be refused or
accepted by the speaker. During reply speeches, no POI may be raised.
11. Proper decorum must be observed at all times. Foul language is strictly prohibited. In case of
misconduct, the adjudicators may penalize the speaker via speaker point deductions.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:


Substance of the speech, quality of arguments,
MATTER evidence presented, and the logical reasoning and 40%
presentation
of said arguments.
The style of delivery, persuasion skills, and the
MANNER conduct of the debaters. 40%
The response to the dynamics of the debate, and
METHOD the observance of the rules of debate. 20%

12. After each round, the competing teams shall cross the bench and do a shaking of hands in the
name of sportsmanship and friendly competition.

13. Recognition and prizes:


*CHAMPION – Php 5,000.00
*2ND PLACE – Php 3,000.00
*3RD PLACE – Php 2,000.00
*BEST DEBATER – Php 500.00 (Speaker who garnered the highest points in the entire
competition)
Side on the issue: The side of the team in the issue will be determined through the toss-coin
method.

Debate Topic: The topics of the debates for each round will be drawn by any of the adjudicators
from the pool of debate topics.

Moderator: The moderator is the timekeeper of the debate. He/she will indicate the first and
fourth minutes of the speech by ringing the bell once. The continuous ringing of the bell will
indicate that the 10-minute preparation time, 5-minute constructive speech, and 4-minute reply
speech are over.

Debate preparation: Each team is given ten (10) minutes to prepare their speeches each round.

Winner: Winners will be solely decided by the board of adjudicators through a point system based
on the criteria for judging. The adjudicator’s decision is final and irrevocable.
