MEME 635: Project Management for Engineers

Dr. Omar J. Al-Khatib
Fall 2022 – PM Project
The following are two project proposals for consideration and selection of the most viable one.
The projects should be reviewed on the basis of their plausibility for society, the visibility of the
stakeholders, the importance of their impact for investors, and other economic considerations,
such as the payback period, before they are approved.

The following tasks are required:

1. Answer brainstorming question as a starting point for the analysis.
2. Write a report that concludes whether or not the assigned project should be approved.
3. There should only be two students assigned to each project.
4. There will be a presentation required for this project.
5. Using the Excel sheets provided in this document, you can tentatively construct Gantt
charts and assess the risks associated with a project.
6. Project analysis is required in light of the topics presented in this course. However, building
the analysis based on the minimum number of answers may not even grant students the
minimum grade possible.
7. IMPORTANT: An analysis of the project is required in light of the topics that are presented
in this course. However, if an analysis is constructed based solely on answering questions,
the minimum grade may not even be granted.
8. ACTIVE THINKING: A project is provided with a minimum set of activities, dates, potential
risks, and resources in order to ensure success. However, additional activities may be added
if deemed necessary and will be considered for additional points.
9. CREATIVITY: The project manager is expected to be creative. Therefore, creative ideas are
essential in the analysis and writing of the report, as well as in the presentation of the project,
and will be considered in the grading process.
10. Digital Tools: Utilize the Excel sheet provided with this assignment to construct a tentative
Gantt Chart and analyze potential risks. The final results should be included as images in the
report, and an Excel spreadsheet should be submitted.
11. Due Date: 8/12/2022
12. Project Grouping: This is a group assignment. There are a maximum of two students per
group. Each group is required to analyze only one of the two projects, either A or B.
13. Project Conclusion: You are required to write a conclusion which indicates whether the
project should be approved or not in light of your understanding of various concepts of
project management covered in this course.
