2. Check for blocks in venflon prior to procedure 3. Avoid tight fitting dresses( shirt and a skirt for females…) 4. Remove dentures 5. Strict adherence to NPO( 8 hours of fasting for solids and liquids) 6. Bladder should be emptied prior to procedure
PRE ECT PREPARATION
1. Routine blood investigation (CBC,RBS,RFT,LFT,SERUM ELECTROLYTES) 2. Chest x ray 3. ECG 4. Covid testing 5. CT brain 6. Attach FILLED ECT proforma 7. Informed Consent 8. PRE post ECT Scores(scales) 9. Rule out pregnancy if needed 10. DRUGS: Antipsychotics can be continued including clozapine Antidepressants can be continued Lithium either to be stopped a day before OR therapeutic level should be less than 0.1mEq/L Benzodiazepines should be stopped Carbamazepine should be stopped Antihypertensive continued (taken with a sip of water) Oral hypoglycemic drugs morning to be stopped on day of ECT
POST ECT INSTRUCTIONS
1.liquid diet to be started 2 hrs after ECT 2.maintain i.v.access adequate hydration 3.post ECT Scales to be noted 4 if patient is on cmhrs insurance (file for ECT also) 5.watch for myalgia, vomiting,headache
