M y name is Nurul Ezzah Bt
Mohd Ghazali. I am a second
year student of Unikl in the
field of Bachelor in Interactive
Multimedia Design.
Being a graphic design student requires
me to always think creatively and
outside the box. Honestly, it’s not as
easy as people always thought.
“Nothing is very difficult to learn
design. You just have to think creatively.
Easy.” Well, I can guarantee you, it is
not that easy.
But don’t worry, you can still do it.
What is important, there needs to be
a deep interest. It’s okay if you’re not
skilled yet. You can gain your skill
slowly but surely. I love creating short
videos that can convey a good message
to the community. The first video I
personally created and directed has won
a consolation prize nationally. I am very
proud of our work. For me, what mat-
ters most is the teamwork within the
group. If you can’t work well together,
you won’t get good results.
Beside that, I also love to design
magazines. Since I learned indesign
software 2 years ago, I found that I
really love it. It is definitely my most
favorite software. Last word, I hope that
one day I will become a very skilled
person in the field of design. I also hope
this final project that requires us to
create our own magazine will get good
marks from our beloved lecturer,
Madam Zuriani.

HERO
Artist: Mat Ali
T
his selection of sculptures is
entitled unsung hero and was
captured Mat Ali. It took him
four years to completely finished the
artwork. The male sculpture was
mounted onto a natural stone base and
have been carefully crafted in

using materials like zinc, aluminum,
iron, tin & steel. For example, Mat
Ali spent many hours and days to
perfect the bronze head of the
sculpture of Rentap. With his left
hand raised up high, one could
almost see his famous war cry,
‘agi idup, agi ngelaban’.
The common ground among all the
warriors were their commitment and
believed to defend the country against
invaders. Mat Ali wants this exhibition
to serve as reminder to the younger
generation about the sacrifice of those
who came before with a united
objectives and commitment.
T he staggering masterpieces
of Nyoman Nuarta are hard
to miss. Balinese-born Nuarta
is one of the pioneers of Indonesia
New Art movement back in 1976. The
award-winning sculptor whose works
include the iconic Garuda Wisnu
Kencana in Bandung, Bali and the
Proclamation Monument in Jakarta,
grew up being close to nature and
most of his artwork reflects his
Balinese life philosophy.

BOROBUDUR
Artist: Nyoman Nuarta
Nuarta’s tributes to Borobudur, the
ancient ruins of a Mahayana Buddhist
stupa in Central Java are both breath-
taking and shrouded in mystique. The
name ‘Borobudur’ means “the temple
at the top of a mountain” and the ruins
are regarded as part of the ‘Four Great
Wonders of the Ancient East’.
“A monumental sculpture needs to
have historical meaning, besides being
aesthetically pleasing,” he said in a
previous interview, adding:
“We cannot always think an artwork
as just ‘art’.”

Artist: Haafiz Shahimi
T
his wonderful creation is the
handiwork of a local painter
named Haafiz Shahimi. If I have
a lot of money, I really want to hang
this amazing artwork on the wall of
my house. The white as a base colour
gives this painting a clean and
minimalist look. Images of butterfly,
faces and human skulls are carefully
drawn by the painter and they blend
beautifully together.

The butterfly is akin to the cycle of life
where the human face and the skull
imply the inevitable cycle of life and
death. Are we satisfied with just
merely the way we are in this cycle of
life given to us or do we intend to
challenge ourselves further?
Basically, every paintings and artwork
hold their own aesthetic value. It’s a
creation and reception, artist’s self-
expression, imaginative engagement,
a life experience, social reflection as
well as the source of the individual.
I believe that art has always been the
center of human life.
I might not view art like an expert,
but after seeing and do some research
on many incredible and amazing art-
works from talented artists around
the world, I feel so connected to them.
Each artist has a different philosophy
on art but they all share the same
ambitions – to bring people happiness
with their arts and hope everyone will
get the message they want to convey
through each of their works.

an open mind and understand that
there is more than just one solution to

S ingapore is a super easy travel destination. It is well
organized, English-speaking, and almost totally has-

especially if you’re used to the low prices in other nearby
countries. Thankfully, there are many ways to enjoy
Singapore on a budget.

Our last day is all about
discovering Singapore’s three main
cultural groups. The first place we
went to, is Lorong Haji Lane, a tradi-
tional Malay quarter that has recently
turned into a trendy hipster neighbor-
hood, is about a 15-minute walk away.
It’s a lot of fun, thanks to the vibrant
cafes and museums, and it’s ideal for

I love the authenticity and the artsy

because it is not too far from Lorong
Haji Lane. Little India is probably my
