1 INT. DILAPIDATED APARTMENT - NIGHT 1.

SARA(23) sits on the floor, staring at her dirty nails. She

scrubs the underside of her nails on her shirt, which is also
contaminated. Sara sighs and looks around, her eyes taking in
the dark room and broken-down furniture. Flies are buzzing
around the bed, and bedbugs can be seen burrowing into the
sheets. Sara glances at her nails again and looks at the window,
furrowing her brow. She stands up, turning around briefly to
consult an old clock that hangs on the wall. With each tick of
the clock, Sara steps towards the window. At last, she is close
enough to peer out. The window appears to have cracks that let
in a draft, making the curtains billow. Sara shivers.

2 EXT. DARK STREET - NIGHT 2.

NOAH(26) hurries down the street and passes under flickering

streetlights. He stops at a broken-down building and gazes up at
a darkened window. Noah quickly looks around before raising his
arm in a waving gesture.

CUT TO:

1 INT. DILAPIDATED APARTMENT - NIGHT 1.

Sara snorts as she looks out the window and sees Noah. She rolls
her eyes as he waves. With exaggerated slowness, she saunters
around the room, avoiding the bed. She grabs a worn bag off the
ground near the door and flings it open. Sara stops suddenly
outside the room. Closing her eyes, she takes a deep, shaky
breath. With trembling hands, she plucks a matchbox from her
bag. After several unsuccessful attempts, she lights the match
and steps back inside the room. Her eyes flit rapidly from one
end of the room to the other. She exhales slowly and walks over
to the window, dropping the match on the curtain. Sara leaves
quickly and slams the door behind her.

2 EXT. DARK STREET - NIGHT 2.

Hurrying down the steps, Sara shivers as the night breeze

ruffles her hair. She leaves the building, rubbing her arms and
hands. Noah wrinkles his nose when he sees Sara. She, in turn,
glares at him and crosses her arms.

SARA
(thickly accented)
Left arm.

NOAH
I beg your pardon?

SARA
You were supposed to raise your left
arm.

NOAH
Well, where’s your jacket?

SARA
It went overboard. Along with--

NOAH
I thought it was burned.

Sara frowns and hesitates to speak. They both look at each other
displeased.
SARA
Well - does it matter? It’s just a
jacket. And anyway, I'm here now,
aren’t I?

Noah and Sara start walking. Noah walks quickly, his head high
and nose in the air. Sara follows, but she is much slower, her
head hanging. She exhibits exhaustion.

NOAH

Quickly, now. They will not be far

behind. Did you remember to burn-

SARA
Yes. Yes, I did.

NOAH
Well, good. And here.

Noah fishes a small, brown package from the deep pocket of his
dark coat. He holds it out to Sara. She stares at it but makes
no move to take it. Noah realizes this and stops walking. He
looks at young Sara, who is breathing shakily.

NOAH
(softly)
You’re sure about this? If you don’t
make it-

Sara snaps out of her stupor and snatches the package from him.

SARA
Of course I’ll make it. And since when
do you care? Do you think I’ve
forgotten about Spain?

Noah takes a step back at her aggressive manner. He turns and

continues to walk. Sara follows after him.

SARA
I will make it.

Sara walks with purpose now, quickly overtaking Noah with long
strides.

3 EXT. PLAZA - NIGHT 3.

Sara slows down once they reach the small opening. After looking
around at the darkened windows of nearby shops, she decides to
approach Noah with some hesitation.

SARA
I don’t suppose you have a nail
clipper.

NOAH
Why would - No, no I don’t.

SARA
Okay. I was just-

NOAH
I said no.

SARA
I said okay.

Noah mutters under his breath. They continue to wait at the

plaza. Soon enough, a car with tinted windows pulls up.

Sara ducks into the passenger seat, holding the package in her
lap. Noah hurries after her and stops at the car’s window. He
motions for her to roll it down. He looks uneasy.

NOAH
(quietly)
I waited, you know. In Spain. I waited
for you. They told me you would be
there by 4. I waited until 9. You
didn’t-

SARA
(unemotional)
I was there by 6.

Sara turns to look Noah in the eye as she rolls the window up
again. Noah watches as the car drives off, kicking up dust in
its wake. Dejected, he shakes his head before turning around and
walking back the way he came.
