Definition of Simple
Present Tense
The simple present tense is a form of a sentence that
describes an event, or an action that is currently happening
in a simple form, or an action that is done repeatedly, or a
daily habit.
EXAMPLE:
• Jane works hard.
• Chloe doesn’t work hard at all!
• Does Bill jog on Sundays?
Special Features of the
Simple Present Tense
1. The sentence predicate in this tense form is
always a Bare Infinitive.
Especially for subjects that consist of the third
person singular, for example: Jeremy, cat, he, she,
it, the verb always ends in -s/es/ies.
2. Interrogative sentences are formed by adding the
word do/does for verbal sentences and to be (am, 4. Verbal sentences already use the word
is, are) for nonverbal sentences in front of the does/not, so the ending -s/es/ies is removed
