WASTE REDUCTION, SOLID WASTE, AND PUBLIC POLICY

Waste Management has taken a big part of everybody’s daily life. Being clean and living

in a clean area is a good practice of a healthy living. Laws and instructions has been set

out for the public to practice these healthy lifestyles. Solid waste policy has become a

central concern in communities and environmental legislative in the last few years.

Solid waste is now increasing in wealth and currency for the machines and other things

they use to get rid of the waste. This article is about the dimensions of the solid waste

problem, RCRA and national solid waste policy, federal waste reduction policy, state

waste reduction policy and communities with successful waste reduction policies. A

growing volume of land is being allocated to a shrinking number of landfills. Natural

resource contamination associated with landfills adds yet another dimension to the

solid waste problem. This study found out that there are many ways and companies

that are dealing with solid waste. It is said that the Resource Conservation and Recovery

Act is the foundation for the waste reduction strategy dealing with pollution control and

public safety. As many other statutes, RCRA was broadened with amendments prior to

the completion of the rule making activities authorized in 1976. Waste reduction goals

are a prominent elements in many state solid waste statutes. States also vary as to

specificity of their goals. My opinion to this article is very basic. I admit that this is a

very good article that can get the attention of the readers. It taught me all the ways we

can deal with solid waste and how the law for solid waste is being handle. It also

mentions the organizations that is dealing with the solid waste. But the real examples of

significant waste reduction in urban and rural communities, there is no basis for such a
deferral of our solid waste costs to future generation.
