Although the tenor then seems to sing a canon against the bass, in reality the tune is placed in the tenor, with contrapuntal lines composed above and below. This procedure resembles that of Continental song arrangements, but here the accompanying parts are markedly vocal and they contribute nice flourishes to the cadences.
