Subject: Places of historical interest
Date: 27th November 2022

Purpose
The aim of this report is to provide an assessment of the value of the Orsay Museum, which is
situated in Paris, on the Left Bank of the Seine. The museum holds mainly French art dating
from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography.
What the place has to offer
For the last weekend, I have been exploring each and every corner of the Orsay Museum and I
discovered the beauty of art. It houses the largest collection of Impressionist and post-
Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Claude Monet, Édouard Manet,
Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, and Van Gogh. I was extremely taken aback by the diversity of
art that this museum offers to the visitors. The sightseers can admire a wide variety of galleries
which suits all tastes. The museum hosts exhibits of contemporary art, impressionist art and even
expressionist art. A very versatile venue, the museum also has an auditorium with various artistic
events including concerts, shows for young people and an array of cinematographic screenings
covering all genres.
Historical interest
The museum building was originally a railway station, Gare d'Orsay, located next to the Seine
River. Built on the site of the Orsay Palace its central location was convenient for commuting
travelers.  It was the great French architect of the period, Victor Laloux, and two other fellow
architects who were given the job of creating the designs. During the Second World War, the
Orsay station became a dispatch center for the sending of parcels to prisoners. Later, during the
Liberation, it then became a reception center for prisoners. It was only in 1977 that the then
President of the Republic made the decision to build a museum on the site.
Conclusion
To sum up, the Orsay Museum has a great deal to offer the adolescents and would encourage
them to explore the beauty of art. I hope that the plans outlined in this report are clear and meet
your approval and a visit will be arranged.
